Jose Abreu struck out three times Wednesday and is batting .233 with two RBIs through eight games. Over his last 290 plate appearances dating back to last year, he's hit an insane .343 with a .428 OBP. He's also hit only nine homers with 36 RBIs. That's over 68 games folks.

Mookie Betts is a superstar. Just ask anyone. Afterall, he's on pace for 41 homers, 162 RBIs and 61 steals. #BestPlayerOfAllTime. Oh yeah, he's also batting .229, has a .282 OBP and is on pace for 162 strikeouts. It's a long season folks. Don't get ahead of yourself.

Kris Bryant update. He's hitting .381 with two homers and seven RBIs over five games at Triple-A.

Nelson Cruz has hit a homer in 4-straight games. He also pulled off that feat from April 1-4 in 2011. Oddly, the Mariners lead baseball with 13 homers through eight games they are 11th in SLG (.385) and their OBP of .255 is the second worst in baseball.

Evan Gattis has produced no runs through seven games. He has produced 13 strikeouts though. Yikes.

The Giants offense is struggling. Might we see Adam Duvall soon? Probably only if Brandon Belt is sent to the DL. Just in case you missed it, Duvall is batting .478 on the young season with two homers at Triple-A, and in 97 career games at that level he's batting .309 with 29 homers and 96 RBIs. Yeah, nearly an RBI per game.

Adrian Gonzalez has a .622 OBP through eight games. Last season his mark was .335. If you subtract last year's number from this years you end up with .287 which is one point better than the mark of Bryce Harper, Mark Trumbo and Ryan Zimmerman.

Brandon McCarthy has 19 strikeouts and just one walk over 12 innings. Wow. So how is his ERA 6.75? Dude has allowed six home runs. His 4.50 HR/9 mark is 400 percent above his 1.08 career mark. His 14.25 K/9 rate is more than double his career mark (6.44). You've heard me say it before, but McCarthy has never thrown 140-innings in back-to-back seasons. That's the biggest concern with him - durability. I'll say this. No idea how, but right now his average fastball is literally three mph above his career mark. If he holds on to that, and keeps his pinpoint control, he might just post a career best K-rate (his 7.88 per nine mark from last season is his high).

CC Sabathia is 0-2 with a 5.68 ERA (this is the first time in 15 years that he's lost his first two starts of a season). Still has a 1.26 WHIP though, thanks to one walk in 12.2 innings. In fact, he also has 15 strikeouts giving him a 10.66 K/9 mark an a 15.00 K/BB ratio. If he continues along at anything remotely resembling that level of of production his ERA will plummet. Still, his last 42 starts the numbers don't impress at all: 17-19, 4.91 ERA, 1.38 WHIP. Don't really know where the strikeouts are coming from to be honest. Oh hell, don't expect a return to prominence. He's a streaming option at this point.

Corey Seager update. He's hitting .583 in Double-A. He's 14-for-24.
