Let's take a look at Ray Rice (Jeff Mans will argue for) versus Joique Bell (Ray Flowers will argue for).

Ray Rice
By Jeff Mans

Leave it to me to be the one to defend Ray Rice. Personally, I think that Ray is just setting me up on this one but I will play ball. Ray Rice is going to have a very solid 2014 season. Why is he going to rebound from a miserable 2013? Gary Kubiak.

The Ravens have brought in former Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak to rebuild the Ravens offense this year and specifically the running game. Those in the know realize that Kubiak runs a Mike Shanahan type cut block running scheme. This system involves offensive lineman who don’t just straight up block but rather move off the line of scrimmage and cut the defensive linemen forming a cut back lane for the runner. Thus the RBs don’t need to be very fast, just balanced and laterally quick. Ray Rice ran a similar system at Rutgers and is a perfect fit for this style of running at this point in his career.

Rice has always been a good pass catcher as well which adds to his value in PPR leagues. Rice averages 67 catches per season and nearly 500 yards receiving which is roughly the numbers of a low end TE1. I will also say that Rice has all of the motivation in the world to come back strong this year. In many ways Rice could be playing for his career this season and I fully expect him to rise up to the challenge.

The last point I will make is that Ray Rice is a full-time player and Joique Bell is not. Sure, Bell does a lot of little things for the Lions offense but he is only on the field about 45 percent of the time. Rice is a three down RB who gets all of his teams short yardage carries as well.

Joique Bell
By Ray Flowers

I always try to set you up Jeff, it's my only advantage.

Rice is out the first two weeks due to suspension. I think there are many in the know who think that Bernard Pierce could impress enough in those first two weeks to gain a bit bigger role than some think. I also think Pierce might have more juice at this point I his legs and that he's potentially a better fit for the scheme than Rice. Plus, Rice is a deplorable human being.

When on the field last season, Bell was superior to Rice as a playermaker and football player. Period. He's also younger, has far less mileage on his wheels, and he's also in an offense that could do laps around the Ravens.

Bell is in more of an obvious timeshare than Rice, but that's on paper. Bell will share the backfield with an aging Reggie Bush. Do you think he's got 16 games in him this season? Even if he does, Bell still will be the goaline back. Some seem to overlook that Bell had eight rushing scores last year, more than Alfred Morris (7), Zac Stacy (7) and Ryan Mathews (6) to name a few. Bell also caught 53 passes which was one more than LeSean McCoy. He did all that with Reggie Bush in the backfield. As I pointed out in recent report, Bell was also one of six NFL backs to have 50 receptions, 500 receiving yards, 650 rushing yards and score eight times in 2013. You might have heard of  the other names: McCoy, Matt Forte,Jamaal Charles, Giovani Bernard and Knowshon Moreno. How do you like dem' apples Jeff?
