Tuesday is on deck. I'm going to see Jill Scott perform. Looking to get my groove on as you might have guessed. Before I break out into song – no one wants to see/hear that – let me get back to something that I'm better equipped to do, and that is to talk baseball. Here are the BVP matchups for June 24th, 2014.

* NOTE: Players are listed in alphabetical order for the sake of making them easily sortable/findable. The matchups are also generated based on Batter vs. Pitcher data. Just because a player is not listed does not mean that he is a bad or good play. The players listed below are mentioned merely because of the BVP data for the matchup.

DISH DIAMONDS – The Best Hitting Matchups of the Day

Melky Cabrera has hit .455 with two homers in 11 at-bats against David Phelps. Adam Lind has four hits in 12 at-bats including two big flies.

Brett Gardner likes soft tossing Mark Buehrle. He might buy him a gift to say thanks for throwing him pitches. Gardner is 10-for-20 with a homer. No steals though. Ichiro is batting .421 against Mark over 57 at-bats. Impressive. Derek Jeter is at .341 over 41 at-bats. Mark Teixeira is at .319 in 47 at-bats. In 53 at-bats Brian Roberts is batting .302. They all crush Buehrle.

Adam Jones torches lefties (.400/.471/.733) and he's hit two bombs in six at-bats against Jose Quintana.

Adam LaRoche has a .346/.414/.692 slash line over 29 plate appearances against Yovani Gallardo. He's also gone deep twice with six RBIs.

Victor Martinez has seven hits in 14 at-bats when Colby Lewis is on the bump. Austin Jackson has a homer and steal in addition to a .381 batting average in 22 plate appearances. Miguel Cabrera, ho hum, is batting .353 in 17 at-bats. Alex Avila has hit .308 with two homers in 13 at-bats against Colby Lewis.   Then there is Rajai Davis. He's hitting .368 with two steals over 19 at-bats.

Cameron Maybin, now that's a name no one has heard from in a while. He's hit .368 with a homer in 19 at-bats against Tim Hudson

Kendrys Morales, predictably, has been very blah with the Twins. However, he's never blah against C.J. Wilson. He's got nine hits in 21 at-bats (.429). Josh Willingham has gone deep twice with six RBIs against Wilson. He's also batting .333 over 24 at-bats.

Even when you're drunk, look around

Nate Schierholtz has hit .389 with a dong in 18 at-bats against Homer Bailey

Rickie Weeks isn't playing much anymore. He's gone 5-for-9 with a homer against Jordan Zimmermann though. Aramis Ramirez has hit a homer and three doubles and is batting .368 over 19 at-bats.

DISH DISASTERS – Worst Hitting Matchups of the Day

Coco Crisp has five hits against Bartolo Colon. Too bad they've come over 23 at-bats leading to a .217 average. He also doesn't have a walk and has one whole RBI.

Dexter Fowler has whiffed six times in 15 at-bats against Aaron Harang. He's also hit .133.

Carlos Gomez has gone 0-for-10 against Jordan Zimmermann. He's also struck out six times. Time for him to come down with a case of the flu?

Torii Hunter is struggling to hit and stay healthy. He's just struggling when Colby Lewis is on the bump. He's 2-for-22 with six strikeouts.

Joe Mauer has struggled for most of the year until a mini-hot streak has brought some hope. Given that he's all of 2-for-22 against C.J. Wilson the hot run might not continued Tuesday. Kurt Suzuki is an identical 2-for-22.

Jhonny Peralta has two hits in 16 at-bats against Jorge De La Rosa. He's also struck out eight times.

Seth Smith is one of many Padres to struggle against Tim Hudson. Smith has two hits in 15 at-bats. Everth Cabrera has no steals and is batting .211 over 19 at-bats. Will Venable has one homer and no steals. He's posted a .588 OPS over 21 plate appearances. Then there is Chase Headley. He's 3-for-19 with six Ks. He's been a huge disappointment in 2014 as well.

Denard Span has been on the case of late but boy is he bad against Yovani Gallardo. In 16 at-bats he has produced one hit. How does that .243 OPS strike you? His career batting average is .282.

B.J. Upton has swiped three bags against Scott Feldman, but he's also struck out five times while producing one hit in 13 at-bats.

Luis Valbuena has one hit in 14 trips to the dish against Homer Bailey. Starlin Castro has taken Bailey deep twice but he's also hit .200 with a .250 OBP over 32 plate appearances.

Batter Versus Pitcher

Daily Projections – For every single day of the season.

MOUND MAVENS – Starting Pitchers to Target

Danny Duffy faces the Dodgers Tuesday. Watch him lay a goose egg. Over his last four starts he's allowed five runs. He's also been taken deep just once during the run an he's walked a total of six batters. He's pitching very well. The Dodgers rank 24th against lefties according to OPS.

Yovani Gallardo has dropped his ERA from 4.08 to 3.34 in his last three starts (two runs in 21 innings). However, he pitches against the Nats, and he's had no success in the matchup over the years. In 45.1 innings he's been beat for a 6.15 ERA and 1.52 WHIP as the Nationals have hit .294. Your playing recent work vs. history here. Gallardo does have a 3.62 ERA and 1.23 WHIP at home this year.

Kyle Gibson faces the Angels in Anaheim. He's tossed seven scoreless innings in each of his last three starts. In four of his last five outings he has not been scored upon. The Angels are 14th in home OPS though they are 9th in OPS against righties. Hard as hell to trust Gibson, but the performance has been there of late.

It's wrong, but I still approve of this message.

Tim Hudson has a 2.39 ERA and 1.06 WHIP this season. He's also got better than a 4.00 K/BB ratio. He faced the Padres back on April 30th and came within one out of a complete game as he allowed two runs. He pitches at home where he has a 2.16 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over seven starts.

Erasmo Ramirez has a 4.62 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. Yikes. However, he's tossed 15.2 scoreless innings over his last three starts as he's danced in an out of trouble. Erasmo has allowed a mere nine hits but he's also issued 11 walks. That's been his issue. A lack of polish. He faces the Red Sox at home and in three starts at Safeco he's sporting a 3.38 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.

MOUND MESSES – Starting Pitchers to Avoid

Aaron Harang, rather suddenly, has a 3.83 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. That makes him slightly worse than a league average arm when you consider his 5-6 record. The Astros don't hit righties well, they are 6th worst in OPS against righties, but with Harang's history, skills, and outright beating last time out (9 R, 8 ER, 13 hits, 5.0 IP) don't know how you could start him and feel comfortable.

Justin Masterson has made eight starts on the road this year. His ERA is 6.20 and his WHIP is 1.60. He's also roller coasting his way to an ERA of 4.75 and a WHIP of 1.48 over the course of 16 starts this season. So hard to predict what you will get from him (he's thrown a total of 13.2 innings while allowing eight runs over his last three starts). He's facing the D'backs.

Wade Miley goes out, throws six or seven innings, gives up three or four runs, and then turns it over to the bullpen. He's boring. He's also allowed seven homers in his last four outings. He's walked six batters his last two trips to the bump. He pitches at home against the Indians, and he has a 5.40 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a 1-5 record as a home hurler.

Shelby Miller has been volatile this season. He allowed four runs in his last start. He tweaked his lower half in his last outing. He pitches in Colorado. Nothing else needs to be said.

Jake Peavy goes to Seattle to faces the Mariners. He's lasted at least six innings each of his past seven start but his ERA in that time is not pretty (5.12). Neither is his WHIP 1.40 or his 5.91 K/9 mark. He's also sporting a 5.23 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in seven road starts this season.
