The U.S. Open is next week and while I know everyone is just chomping at the bit to get there, we must stay focused on this week’s adventure at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

TPC Southwind plays host each year to the FedEx St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee.  This beautiful 7,239 yard track is a Par 70 and considered a true test for the golfer.  It challenges all parts of a player’s game.  If you look over the course history, there isn’t a particular type of player that has dominated on this track.  Even the most accurate players have had problems keeping it on the fairway which means rough proximity will be one of the key stats I’ll be targeting for my lineups.  The course features water hazards on ten different holes, we want ball strikers who can gain strokes off the tee to keep the ball dry.  TPC Southwind’s greens are very small and difficult to hit, so players who rank highly in approach proximity and green in regulation are at a premium.

This is not the strongest field we’ve seen this season but we do have a large field of 156 players with as usual the Top 70 plus ties making the cut.  Steve Stricker, Keegan Bradley, Jamie Lovemark, Padraig Harrington, and Kelly Kraft have all withdrawn from the tournament but beware, their names are still in the Draft Kings system.

As I was building lineups, I found myself going heavy stars and scrubs with my tournament lineups because of the amount of value in the mid 6K range.  There are a lot of different combinations but I personally preferring to go with one 10K, one 9K, one 7K and two 6K fliers to round out my lineups.  If you really want to go balanced, that’s fine too but I feel like the guys in the mid-range are more risky options.

The best news of the weekend is that there does not seem to be any weather issues in Memphis besides being a little hot and humid.  If you really want to read into this, you could target players going off on Thursday morning as they’ll get out before it heats up in the afternoon.  The temps start in the high 70s on Thursday and get into the high 80s by the end of the weekend.

THE U.S. OPEN IS NEXT WEEK … WOO HOO!!!  Good luck to everyone this week!
