There are two players averaging more than 20 carries this season and those two guys are Ezekiel Elliott and Lamar Miller. The former is dominating the league, rushing for a league-high 703 yards. The running back position continues to be an important position, even though wide receivers tend to get all the attention. In short, you want at least one of these five guys in your starting lineup when the scoring week rolls around. Without further ado, let’s get into this.

Here are the top 5 running backs for Week 7 of the NFL season.

DeMarco Murray vs. IND

Murray is averaging 4.6 yards per carry and he gets to face an Indianapolis defense that has been shredded by running backs this season. There is only one team that is allowing more fantasy points per game than the Colts. Running backs have scored nine touchdowns against Indy this season, and Murray looks like a prime candidate to add to that total.

LeSean McCoy @ MIA

It’s not a great matchup for Shady, but with the level he is playing at, he’s a must-start in all formats. He’s averaging 5.6 yards per carry and he is the focal point of the Buffalo offense. The Dolphins have only allowed one touchdown to opposing running backs this season, but McCoy has been playing too good to fade.

David Johnson vs. SEA

The matchup isn’t great, but by this point, everyone should know that this guy is essentially matchup proof. He continues to produce and fantasy owners were rewarded with a three-touchdown performance a couple nights ago. He’s third in the league in rushing and the dual-threat back will total 100+ yards against the Seahawks in Week 7.

Le’Veon Bell vs. NE

Bell is averaging 87.7 rushing yards per game and his work in the passing games makes him one of the best dual-threat running backs out there. With Landry Jones getting the start in this one, Bell should see a similar or even increased workload in this game. They’ll lean on Bell, on the ground and in the screen game, so he should be fine in the RB1 echelon this week. 110 total yards is the floor for Bell this week.

Devonta Freeman vs. SD

Freeman is in a timeshare with teammate Tevin Coleman, but Freeman is still worthy of top 5 consideration. This game will see both teams approach 35 points, so Freeman will have a full workload in the passing game as well. Freeman has a great chance to score multiple times this weekend.
