Well, folks, it’s a tough day. Not only is the fantasy baseball season winding down, but this is the final Category Impact article of the year. It’s been a heck of a ride. This is the 62nd installment of Category Impact and overall, if you ask me, this article series has been a tremendous success.

This week’s edition is a bit different, in that there are only two days left in the season. You either have to protect a lead, or go attack someone else’s. I’ve recommended three guys this week, one with power, one with speed and a pitcher that can deliver you a quality start before the season ends. If you want a home run or two, pick up San Diego’s Hunter Renfroe. Want that quality start I mentioned two sentences ago? Grab Houston’s Collin McHugh. Need a steal to steal the stolen base category? Cincinnati’s Jose Peraza is your man.

Best of luck in the waning days and follow me on Twitter (@colbyrconway).

Hunter Renfroe, OF SD— Since Sep. 21, Renfroe is hitting .346 with four home runs and 12 RBI. He isn’t going to be any help in terms of stolen bases, but in the last couple games of the season, Renfroe can give you enough power and RBI to steal or salvage a category or two. The guy has great raw power, as the world saw in the last series with the Dodgers. He homered three times and drove in 11 runs, including seven in one game! He may strikeout a bit much and he way not walk a ton, but with just a couple games left in the season, you can live with those shortcomings in exchange for some serious power potential. In terms of power, Renfroe is the real deal.

Collin McHugh, SP HOU— In terms of statistical performance, September has far and away been McHugh’s best month of the 2016 campaign. Through five starts this month, he’s 3-0 with a 3.10 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 29 innings of work. He’s holding opposing batters to a .217 batting average during that time. The Houston right-hander has recorded a quality start in two of his last three outings, and it would have been a perfect three-for-three if he could have recorded one more out against the Oakland Athletics on Sep. 21. His numbers for the season have not been what many of us thought they would be, but of pitchers on free agency, he’s your best shot with just a couple days left in the 2016 regular season.

Jose Peraza, CIN OF— Renfroe has the pop, but Peraza has the speed. For the season, he’s hitting .332 with three home runs and 25 RBI. However, his name to fantasy claim is his ability to steal some bases. The batting average is pretty nice, too. If you’re close to someone in stolen bases or you just want to protect your lead in the category, Peraza is likely your best bet on free agency to swipe a big in the last couple games of the season. His final games will also come against the Chicago Cubs, a team that has allowed the third most stolen bases on the season. Also, they’ve caught just 22.9 percent of runners, which is third worst in all of baseball. Protect or gain the lead in steals by adding Cincinnati’s Peraza.

Until next fantasy baseball season, my friends. Best of luck!
