Both the regular and fantasy baseball seasons are coming to a close and, to be honest, it’s a bittersweet moment. All this hard work will culminate to one final moment – whether this season was a success or a complete and utter failure. Hopefully, you’re looking at the former and not the latter. If you’re still in a dogfight here in the final week, these three guys should be able to help you for one final push. It’s time to get bold and it’s time to get smart. Put your thinking caps on and continue reading this piece.

Carlos Gomez, OF TEX— Over the last seven days Gomez has looked like the player we had been accustomed to seeing during his time in Milwaukee. Ever since he was traded from the Brewers, he never looked the same. His time in Houston was subpar but things are starting to turn around for him in Texas. Over the last week, he’s hitting .370 (10-for-27) with two home runs, four runs scored, four RBI and one stolen base. He’s also posted a quality .630 slugging average in the aforementioned span. He’s also in an excellent spot to produce the rest of the way, seeing as he’s hitting atop a powerful Texas lineup. With guys like Ian Desmond, Jonathan Lucroy and Adrian Beltre behind him, he can put exceptional stats down the stretch run. This is the time of year where every move, every single day is absolutely critical and you need to make the most of it. Gomez can contribute across the board and he’s worthy of one of your precious roster spots.

Scooter Gennett, 2B MIL— Gennett has been a bright spot for the Milwaukee offense of late. Over the past two weeks, he’s hitting .341 (14-for-41) with four homers, 11 runs scored, 11 RBI and only seven strikeouts. He’s only walked twice in that span, but when your slugging percentage is sitting at .756 over the past two weeks, fantasy owners can live with the miniscule walk rate. Gennett also gives you some production out of the second base position, which depending on your team, you may have been lacking production of late. Milwaukee is out of playoff contention, has been for some time, so Gennett is going to play every day down the stretch. Even if you do have a good second baseman, if he’s on a good team, he may see frequent rest days over the next week or so. Adding Gennett would give you some insurance because regardless of the availability of your other second baseman, Gennett will play each day.

Taylor Rogers, MIN RP— Alright loyal readers, this one is a pure gut play. At this point of the fantasy season, you need to either attack a category for a lead, or you need to pick up the right players to protect your lead in a certain category. His stat line for the season isn’t anything crazy; 3-0 with a 3.59 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 60 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched. However, over the last two weeks, he’s been dominant. He’s posted nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings, while notching quality marks of 1.69 and 0.56 in terms of ERA and WHIP respectively. Also, that 15.19 K/9 in that span is downright filthy. He can, and will, be a quality source of strikeouts down the stretch and can help you either win, or hold your lead in strikeouts and K/9.
