It’s Saturday, so get ready for your dose of Category Impact! This week’s edition features a trio of players who are likely available in your league’s free agency and can help you get one step closer to the title. Regardless of what category they impact, each player can fill a niche role on your team. Not every free agent you pick up is going to be on your team for the long haul, it just won’t work that way. Jose Peraza may stay red hot for another week or two and then you drop him. However, during his time on your team, he will positively impact at least a few categories, which makes him a quality pick up. Anyways, let’s get into this.

Jose Peraza, OF CIN— I’ve been a pretty big supporter of this guy and love to see Cincinnati give him an extended chance. The guy can hit for an average and he’s no stranger to the stolen base. In 71 games at the Triple-A level this season, he hit .281 with 10 stolen bases. Well, in 38 games with the Reds, he’s hit .295 and swiped 12 bags. Sure, he’s no Billy Hamilton on the bases, but he’s certainly not slow. Seeing as he already has 12 stolen bases, given regular playing time, he should reach 20 before seasons end. Since coming back up to the team on a week ago, he’s hitting .379 (11-for-29) with one home runs, five runs scored, five RBI and two stolen bases. Peraza and Hamilton could wreak havoc on the bases and help other guys’ numbers on that team. When you add Peraza, it’s certainly not for power, but understand you’re going to get a .280 hitter with above-average speed on the bases. Peraza can swipe some bases for you down the stretch.

Robbie Ray, SP ARI— Alright, so Mr. Ray might not always make it easy, but you can’t knock the final lines. He’s struck out 20 guys over his 12 innings, allowing just seven hits. However, the five walks during that same span are far from appealing. If your league counts pitcher walks as a category, Ray isn’t going to do you any justice there. On the other hand, Ray can strike out batters with the best of them. Believe it or not, Ray’s K/9 is tied for second in all of baseball. He’s tied with Max Scherzer at 11.23 K/9, trailing only Miami’s Jose Fernandez (12.89). With that in mind, it’s baffling that a guy with this type of strikeout prowess is owned in only 50 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues. So, if you need some help in the strikeouts department, Ray is likely available in your league. He shouldn’t be, but don’t let him waste away in free agency in the uber-important stretch of the fantasy season.

Ender Inciarte, OF ATL— Over the last week, Inciarte is hitting .448 and slashing .724 while scoring eight runs. During that stretch, he’s also homered once and driven in six runs. Inciarte’s fantasy value has increased over the last week or so, not only because of his individual performance, but the bats behind him. Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp have been swinging the bat well, helping Inciarte’s other counting stats. He hasn’t been running much lately, but he should be able to swipe a few more bags as the season dwindles down. It’s been a trying year for the left-handed outfielder, but this hot streak could leave you a little less upset at the end of the year. Regardless, over the last week, his WAR is third in all of baseball, behind just Gary Sanchez and Corey Seager. Hey, his performance at the end of the season is what matters right? Anyways, Inciarte is going to be a quality producer in terms of hits and runs scored the rest of the way.
