It’s Tuesday, which means it’s the day after Monday and time for a new Category Impact article! This week we take a look at four infielders and a starting pitcher who can make a difference on your fantasy team. Martin Prado is raking, so is Brandon Drury. Jonathan Villar is still fast and Trea Turner’s promotion is nearing closer. Hopefully your season-long teams are doing well, but if not, this article features guys that can help you in a few categories. Without further ado, let’s get into it.

Hit me up on twitter (@colbyrconway) if you have any questions.

Martin Prado, 3B MIA—The Miami third baseman has collected a hit in every game he has started this season. He has five straight multi-hit games, including four three-hit performances during that same span. He still hasn’t left the yard but when you look at his career, especially in recent years, he isn’t much of a power hitter. In case you haven’t been keeping up with the league leaders, Prado actually has the highest batting average among qualified players. He’s slashing .410/.447/.487 on the season, all well above his career marks. He is going to regress at some point, but as long as he is hitting like this, he is worthy of a roster spot in the majority of fantasy formats. He should continue to hit near the top of the order with Dee Gordon being suspended for 80 games. Prado isn’t going to supply the power other corner infielders can provide, but he’s a prime producer in batting average and runs.

Brandon Drury, 3B ARI—Drury has homered four times in his last five games, hitting .350 during that span. As long as he is hitting like this, he is going to continue to play every day in the Arizona lineup. He’s also hitting .364 over the past two weeks, showing that he has been able to maintain a hot streak. Drury has also slugged .727 during this two-week span. Is he going to regress a bit? Of course, in 20 games with the Diamondbacks last year, he sported a .214/.254/.375 slash line, well below this year’s .315/.329/.630. His career minor league OBP (.334) is close to his number this year, so perhaps at the very least, he will be able to continue to get on base at an above-average clip. He will supply more power than Prado, but his average has the ability to fall lower than Miami’s third baseman. Another factor that makes Drury a worthy add is his home ballpark. In terms of MLB park factors, Chase Field ranks in the top three in all of baseball in runs, homers and hits.

Trea Turner, 2B WSH— Turner is another one of these young guns who can make a big splash immediately at the big league level. His promotion to the big league has to be coming soon. Danny Espinosa, the team’s current shortstop, is hitting .192 with two homers and nine RBI. While Espinosa is slumping, Turner is streaking through 23 games at Triple-A Syracuse. This season, Turner is slashing .333/.402/.478 with two homers, 10 RBI and nine stolen bases. His career minor league batting average of .323 shows just how good he can be for fantasy owners. Turner has the potential to be a fantasy stud and enjoy a lengthy MLB career. He may struggle with the batting average when he first gets called up, but the speed is undeniable. If you want speed and love a good prospect, Turner is your man. It’s also encouraging that his strikeout percent through 23 Triple-A games is well below his percentage in other seasons. Add and stash Turner, because the promotion is looming.

Jonathan Villar, SS MIL— Shortstop isn’t the most attractive fantasy position, but Villar is a guy on the waiver wire that could provide a spark to your offense. He’s hitting .263 with seven stolen bases and 11 runs scored. Villar’s long-term value is a bit spotty, because the Brewers do have Orlando Arcia chilling in the minors. However, right now, Villar’s fantasy value is decently high. The switch-hitting shortstop has five steals in his last five contests, making him a valuable play. Also, with Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy hitting the way they are, Villar has plenty of potential to rack up some runs hitting second in that Milwaukee order. If you need help at shortstop, Villar is worthy of a pickup. He could also be a short-term replacement until a guy like Turner gets his call to the show.

Bartolo Colon, SP NYM— Believe it or not, but Colon is currently a top-25 pitcher in fantasy formats. Not to mention the fact that Colon is currently the second-best pitcher in fantasy formats on his own team, ahead of Jacob deGrom, Steven Matz and Matt Harvey. For a lack of a better word, he’s been exceptional this season, registering a 2-1 record with a 2.56 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. In 31.2 innings this season, “Big Sexy” has posted a fantastic 28:3 K/BB ratio. He is flying under the radar this season, largely due to the other big names in the rotation, but in fantasy baseball, you need to take attention to the veteran right-hander. Colon pitches to contact, but he still flashes the ability to rack up some punch outs here and there. He has yet to allow more than three earned runs in a start this season, something not too many starters can say at this point of the campaign. If you need some pitching, Colon is your man. Also, his next start is against the Padres, so he should be able to produce immediately for you.
