Hitters

Play of the Day: Joey Votto – After falling short of Ted Williams record for consecutive games of reaching base at least twice on Thursday, Votto used the Wrigley wind to go deep, while also reaching base a total of three times yesterday.  He faces Dickey tonight, who has allowed 13 home runs over his 12 home starts this season.  Votto is 4-9, with a home run lifetime vs him.

Top Play: Gary Sanchez – Sanchez’s price is low due to his position more than his production lately.  Sanchez went deep last night for the third time over his last four games, and fifth over his past nine games.  Sanchez also collected two hits in five of those games, and is 6-13, with three home runs lifetime vs the lefty Pomeranz.

Top Play: Carlos Gonzalez – If looking for cheaper exposure to the Rockies, I prefer Cargo slightly more than LeMahieu, and the other similar priced Rockies tonight.  Gonzalez is starting to fall back into his slump, and believe Garza will keep him from fully going back to regular o’fer games again.  He’s still looking for his second home run since June 20th, with tonight being one of his best chances.  Cargo is 4-17 vs Garza, with three of the four hits going for homers.

Value Play: Nomar Mazara – Mazara came through with a home run last night to make it back to back games with one.  He also collected at least two hits for the fifth time out of his last eight games.  Shields has allowed 12 earned runs, and six homers over his last 18 innings.

Pitchers

Play of the Day: Max Scherzer –  Scherzer is a heavy favorite tonight vs the Padres, who check in with the lowest projected run total of tonight’s slate.  OUtside of his one inning injury start, Scherzer has at least nine strikeouts in eight of his last nine starts.  Scherzer has a strikeout rate of 42.3% over the last two years vs the Padres, including 13 K’s while being one out shy of a complete game vs them earlier this year.

Pivot Play: Corey Kluber –  Pairing two top pitchers tonight will be difficult, and with similar price tags, Kluber is the pivot play option tonight with Max taking the mound at Petco.  Kluber has not lost since July 4th, and has pitched complete games in two of his last three starts.  The Indians played a doubleheader yesterday, and may need another CG from Corey tonight.  Kluber is eight strikeouts shy of 200 for the season, and has struck out at least eight in every start since the month on June.

Pivot Play:  Rich Hill –  It should be no surprise that the Dodgers are heavy favorites once again tonight as they hit the road for an interleague matchup with the Tigers.  Hill has not lost since the end of June, striking out at least eight in six of his last seven starts, while recording four more wins to push to record to 8-4 for the year.  Hill has allowed three or less runs in nine straight starts, striking out 74 batters over those 54 innings.

GPP Play:   Matt Moore –  If looking to spend on hitting over pitching tonight, Moore checks in with one of the lowest price tags of the evening.  Moore has yet to record a win in the second half of the season, but has recorded double digit fantasy points in five of those six starts.  Looking closer, Moore had matchups with the Cubs, Nationals, Indians, and Dodgers over that span.  He should produce similar numbers to what Samardzija did last night, which is plenty for Moore at his cheap price tag.
