A split slate for Wednesday that consists of five games for the early slate, and nine for the evening.

The early slate is shaping up to be gpp only for me.  Once again it looks like rain in Colorado, and needs to be monitored with it starting two hours after the first game of the slate.  The highest pitcher of the slat is priced at $8K on FD, and $8.5 on DK.   Compare that to the night slate that has four pitchers over 10K on FD, and five pitchers priced between $9.2-$10.7K on DK.

As always, things can change based on lineups and weather, so do stay up to date using the Playbook Pro tools.  Below are my favorite stack options for the day.  Good luck!

Stacks for Wednesday, May 10

San Francisco Giants @ New York Mets

If it plays, the Cubs/Rockies game will be the popular stack, but I’ll be focused on the Giants @ Mets game this afternoon.  The game features a pitching matchup of Matt Cain vs Tommy Milone, and currently ties for the lowest implied run total of the early slate at eight runs.  Cain was rocked for nine earned runs in his last start, while Milone was claimed off waivers from the Brewers.

Matt Cain allowed only three runs in 23 innings before being rocked by the reds in his last start.  He now has allowed an OBP of .459  vs left-handed batters this season (Rank: 137th of 140 qualified SPs in MLB), and has a strikeout rate of just 6.1% against the heart of the order this season (Rank: 145th of 146 qualified SPs in MLB).  The Mets have a good track record vs Cain with Bruce (11-23), Reyes (8-17), and Conforto (3-3) all having taken Cain deep in the past.

Milone will be pitching for the first time in 12 days, and comes to the Mets with a 6.43 ERA from his time with the Brewers.  Buster Posey has an OBP of .458 versus LHP this season, while Pence is 4-6 with a hr off Milone.

Top Stack Suggestions:

Giants: (Projected 2-5 battersBuster Posey, Brandon Belt, Hunter Pence, Christian Arroyo

Mets:  Jose Reyes, Jay Bruce,, Neil Walker, Curtis Granderson

*Alternative to this Stack:  Atlanta Braves @ Houston Astros

Detroit Tigers @ Arizona D-Backs

While taking the more contrarian route for the early slate, I’ll be focusing more on what could end up being the more popular stacks of the evening.  While it may come down to which starting pitcher you build your team around, tonight has the potential for some high scoring affairs as well.

This game features the highest evening slate total at 10 runs with a pitching matchup of Matt Boyd vs Zachary Godley.  Boyd has six starts on the season, but only against three divisional teams so far.  Arizona has some lefty killers, but have struggled to score runs lately, as evident of going 3-13 with RISP last night.  The D-Backs have only scored six runs over their past three games, but Vegas believes they will come close to matching that number is just one game tonight.

Godley is making a spot start tonight while trying to earn the starting spot left by the injured Miller.  Detroit has been banged up a bit, and loses Martinez due to playing in a national league park tonight.  While they have a walk rate of 10.7% vs RHP this season, I’m looking for them to take a ball or two deep tonight.  Miggy would be left out due to taking Goldy, but works well as a lower owned, cheaper option than him.

Top Stack Suggestions:

D-Backs:  A.J. Pollock, Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Owings, Brandon Drury

Tigers:  Justin Upton, Tyler Collins, Jim Adduci, James McCann

*Alternative to this stack:  Texas Rangers with a mini St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers stack.

Boston Red Sox @ Milwaukee Brewers

These two teams can score in bunches, go deep, and playing in Miller Park tonight.  Boston has Kyle Kendrick taking the mound tonight for his second start, with his first one lasting only four innings after allowing six runs.  The Brewers offense have been attacking the game early, batting .326 with nine HR’s and 33 total runs in the first inning alone this season.  Some of that is due to Brewers  hitters slugging .552 with runners on base this season (Rank: 2nd of 30 in MLB).

Milwaukee has Chase Anderson pitching for them tonight, as has pitched well this season.  The problem is that he will be tasked with trying to slow down a hot hitting Boston team he has never faced before.  Boston has scored 35 runs over their past three games.  Red Sox hitters have struck out only 29 times in 200 PAs (14.5%) versus RHP over the past 7 days (Rank: 1st of 30 in MLB), and seeing the ball well this year, averaging 4.0 Pitches per Plate Appearance versus RHP this season.  If they can take Anderson out of the game early, Red Sox hitters have an OBP of .377 versus relief pitchers this season (Rank: 1st of 30 in MLB).

Top Stack Suggestions:

Brewers:  Eric Thames, Jonathan Villar, Keon Broxton, Ryan Braun

Red Sox:  Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Andrew Benintendi, Christian Vazquez or Sandy Leon

Alternative to full game stack:  Two players mini stacks from Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays, and Milwaukee Brewers.
