Tonight’s slate once again poses some weather concerns in multiple places so please keep an eye on that.  For now, the worst concern is the Cubs/Pirates and Rays/White Sox games.  There are also some strong wind conditions in other ballparks so weather is definitely in play tonight.  Also, keep an eye on the Red Sox lineup as they clinched last night.  I did not select anyone from their team, but value should be there when lineups come out.  A few interesting facts that are in play tonight:

  • The Twins ended their slump of going 106 innings with scoring one or less runs by scoring two runs in the sixth inning last night.
  • A loss tonight for Chris Archer will make him the first pitcher with 20 plus loses in a season since 2003.
  • The Phillies bullpen have given up 23 runs since Sunday.
  • DJ LeMahieu leads Murphy for the batting title with his .349 to .347.  The Rockies are considering sitting LeMahieu the rest of the season so he can win the title.

Catcher

Cash/GPP Plays:  Not too much changes for me from my plays last night. Gary Sanchez had another O’fer last night to make him 1 for his last 18 with the lone hit leaving the yard.  With the weather conditions looking poor in NY, I can’t see many going with Sanchez if playing cash.  For gpp’s I feel he would be more of a pivot play with Yasmani Grandal and Russell Martin once again being my top catchers.  Grandal is 5-7 with a HR off Friedrich, and hopefully receives the start tonight.  Martin is more or less the default play of choosing the catcher on the highest projected scoring team.  He’s 12-45 lifetime off Jimenez, so not a must play by any means.  Will probably only use him in a Jay’s stack.

Value Plays:  Matt Wieters is 4-10 with 2 HR’s off Stroman, and is 7-15 over his past four games.

First Base

Cash/GPP Plays:  Freddie Freeman now has extended his hitting streak to 30 games, and mentioned the Phillies bullpen struggles already.  He will cost you, but if paying up at first, Freeman is my personal preference over Edwin, Rizzo, Ortiz, ect.  Even though he is listed at a similar price as the top guys on DK and Aces, Will Myers has a nice discounted price on FD if going with a Padre’s stack.  Myers is hitless in the current series so outside of a stack, would probably pay up or go cheaper.

Value Plays:  There should be a few value options that are capable of big games tonight.  Adrian Gonzalez is 5-12 with a HR off Friedrich, and finally went deep for the first time since September 5th last night. When rostering  Brandon Moss, expect a HR or a dud night.  17 games this month he has gone hitless.  Going to need to take some chances though on a slate like tonight to be different.  Josh Bell may not get the start after Jaso went off last night.  If that is the case, feel free to ride the hot bat in Jaso.

Second Base

Cash/GPP Plays:  I’m going to try not to overthink second base again tonight, will go with the plug and play Robinson Cano on FD, and hoping Matt Carpenter and the Cards show up tonight.  Cano is 6-13 with a homer off Graveman, and coming off a series against Houston in which he went 6-13 with 3 doubles, 3 homers, and 5 runs.  Carpenter, like all Cards, were a letdown last night, but expecting a different team to show up tonight.  If you have been rostering Gordon all week, and looking for a similar type play, Jose Peraza fits the mold at second.  I like Cano much more for cash games, but Peraza has at least two hits in five of his last eight games, with at least a run scored in four straight.  His price is great on Aces.

Value Plays:  Starlin Castro is someone that you can pair with Sanchez if taking the chance on the Yankees.  He’s dirt cheap on FD, and went 2-2 in his only game vs Owens.

Third Base

Cash/GPP Plays:  Left the top priced guys off the list even though in play, but believe you can go cheaper again tonight with some mid-tier options. Justin Turner and Kyle Seager are similar priced players that provide you a late night hammer option as well.  Turner has 5 walks in 11 plate appearances vs Friedrich, and was 7-10 before his O’fer last night.  Seager works better in gpp’s as he is only 2-14 vs Graveman, but like him paired with Cruz and Cano.   Manny Machado is 3-9 with a HR off Stroman, but still looking for his first hit in this series.

Maikel Franco and Adonis Garcia are the same price on FD, but Franco is the highest price player of the ones I listed on DK tonight.  Both are gpp’s only for me with Franco making for a nice mini-stack with Quinn, and Garcia works best paired with Freeman and Kemp I feel.

Value Plays:  Currently, nobody stands out as a great punt option, but once lineups come out, value will be there if looking for it.

ShortStop

Cash/GPP Plays:   As mentioned above, I feel like the Cards will wake up tonight, making Aledmys Diaz a nice play tonight.  His price is affordable, and since re-entering the lineup on September 12, three of his six hits have went for homers.  Marcus Semien may get the leadoff spot tonight vs a lefty.  He went deep last night, and has reached base safely in 13 of his last 15 games.  Just like Martin, Troy Tulowitzki is in play due to Vegas putting the Jay’s at a high team total.  Just like Martin, Tulo is best used in a Jay’s stack.

Value Plays:  Addison Russell is the best you are going to find on FD.  He’s 0-6 in this series, but has scored three runs.  If going with a full Brave’s stack, Dansby Swanson provides salary relief.  He had a big game last night with a double, triple, and SB.  Not a huge fan of where he bats, so will use in Brave’s stack only.

Outfield

Cash/GPP Plays:  As usual, outfield is pretty loaded tonight with multiple routes to take at similar price points.  I really like the entire Seattle OF, but will do my best to make sure I have plenty of exposure to Nelson Cruz, who is 10-15 with a HR off Graveman. Aoki and Smith are a combined 14-26 with 3 K’s off him, so the OF stack is very much in play.  I missed the boat on Matt Kemp last night, and believe he can repeat his performance last night, as he is 7-18 with a HR off Hellickson.  Michael Saunders is my designated Blue Jay player that I like in the outfield.  Of course, if Carrera is leading off again, he makes for a great punt again.  Saunders is 9-19 with 4 HR’s off Jimenez, and could be his best chance for his first multi-hit game of the month.  Robbie Grossman is the one Twin I’m willing to roster tonight.  He’s 5-8 with a homer off Duffy, and hit safely in three straight games.

Value Plays:  There should be plenty of value options tonight at outfield, but going to try to get the most exposure to the three listed below. Hunter Renfroe was listed here yesterday, and no reason to take him off this list.   Over his last three starts, he is now 6-12 with 4 HR’s and 15 RBI’s.  These are Sanchez type numbers for 2K cheaper.  Pairing Renfroe with Myers and Manuel Margot is not the worst idea.  Margot is another young Padre making the most of his call-up.  Over his last two starts (four total this season), Margot has gone 5-9 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 2 SB’s.   Earlier in the evening there is another young speedster in Roman Quinn.  Quinn has reached base safely in 5 of last six starts, and a stolen base in four of those six games.
