Tragedy struck the sports world Sunday morning when it was learned that Marlins ace pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident in South Florida. Details of the incident have not yet been released, but the Coast Guard is reporting that Fernandez was one of three killed in a boat crash off Miami Beach and authorities are continuing a search for a potential fourth victim.

Sunday’s game between the Marlins and the Braves has been cancelled. "The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of José Fernández. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time," the team said in a statement.

Considered not just a phenomenal athlete, but also a great teammate and person, the 24-year old had made his way back from Tommy John surgery and had been dominating in the majors once again this season. He was 16-8 with a 2.86 ERA and a massive 253 strikeouts in just 182.1 innings. Additional reports are citing that he and girlfriend Carla Mendoza were expecting their first child.

Fantasy Alarm sends its deepest condolences to the entire Fernandez family during these troubling times.
