Not a bad week so far for the Pitching Coach who may or may not have left most of his gray matter in a field somewhere near the Gorge in Washington. We had some real nice performances from the likes of Tom Koehler, Bud Norris, Jerad Eickhoff and Ervin Santana yesterday, so let’s see if we can keep the momentum going. I’ve split the data sheet into the early and late slates to make things easier for those who don’t like to play the all-day games. Here we go…

Madison Bumgarner, SF – The Reds just don’t handle left-handed pitching well, as evidenced by their 23rd-ranked .311 wOBA and 23.3-percent strikeout rate. MadBum should make fairly quick work of this lineup and continue his dominance of the National League.

Adam Conley, MIA – This series against the Phillies is just the confidence booster the Marlins pitching staff needs. Philly ranks dead last with their .278 wOBA against southpaws this season and the 23.6-percent K-rate isn’t helping their cause.

Marco Estrada, TOR – While Marcus Stroman was only average against the Padres yesterday, Estrada should at least help the Jays continue their winning ways. Even with an occasional decent showing, the Padres still rank 29th with a .289 wOBA against righties this year. Look for Estrada to also exploit that 24.6-percent strikeout rate.

Brandon McCarthy, LAD – Health is always a concern, so here’s hoping McCarthy can go at least five innings and maybe grab the win. Not only are the Rays posting a .273 wOBA over the last week, they’ve got just a .302 wOBA against righties this season with an atrocious 24.3-percent strikeout rate.

Matt Moore, TB – We just might be able to flip a coin in this one with regard to the win because as bad as the Rays offense has been, the Dodgers performance against lefties this year has been equally depressing. They’ve posted a 28th-ranked .282 wOBA against southpaws with a 21-percent K-rate, so look for a potentially low-scoring duel here.

Zach Eflin, PHI – I’m really not a fan, but he’s had some outstanding starts at times and now gets a Marlins team that is sitting on some ice-cold bats. They’ve posted just a .288 wOBA over the last week and the .114 ISO indicates little to no power right now. Eflin’s last start will surely turn people on to him in this match-up, so his ownership percentages could be higher than usual.

Yu Darvish, TEX – The command seems to be coming back slowly but surely and the strikeout rate continues to climb. While the A’s aren’t notorious strikeout victims, Darvish should still rack up a decent total. And with the A’s posting a .293 wOBA over the past week (with a .301 wOBA versus righties all year), he should be able to keep the runs off the board as well.

Adam Wainwright, STL – Nothing like kicking the Mets while they’re down, amirite? The lack of run production yesterday, the .286 wOBA over the past week and the feeble .106 ISO in that span have me looking at a resurgent Wainwright who should post his fifth straight quality start after today.

Lance McCullers, HOU – OK, so Doug Fister couldn’t get it done yesterday, but McCullers should be able to handle a soft Yankees lineup. The Bombers are sitting on a .279 wOBA with just a .112 ISO over the past week and they’ve got a below-average .306 wOBA against right-handers on the year.

Matt Shoemaker, LAA – I can definitely get back onboard with Shoemaker today as he faces a Royals team that really couldn’t be any colder if they tried. The .251 wOBA with the 22.9-percent strikeout rate and the .103 ISO over the past week scream ugliness! Take advantage while you can!

Tyler Duffey, MIN – How about a little Minnesota dart here? Not the biggest Duffey fan, but the Braves continue to be a nice DFS punching bag for selecting pitchers. Ervin Santana took care of business yesterday and Duffey should do the same. Atlanta continues to rank dead-last in the majors with a .284 wOBA against righties and there’s no reason to believe they’re going to suddenly snap out of it.
