A little split slate action here on a Wednesday and I’ll say it…the day slate sucks. Well, at least for pitchers. I don’t like the match-ups for the high-cost guys and will only be throwing down in low-cost GPPs. For the night slate, I like the high end a lot more and will play both cash and GPP, though I may not be entirely happy with how some of the bats fit…or don’t fit. Either way, let’s get to it…

Kyle Hendricks, CHC – With David Price facing a Rays team that destroys lefties, Hendricks becomes my No. 1 for the early slate. I don’t love it as manager Joe Maddon is too comfortable with the quick hook after five innings, but facing a Reds team that is sitting on a 30th-ranked .271 wOBA and a 23-percent strikeout rate over the last week, makes me look to him, especially after posting 17 Ks in his last 11 innings.

Yovani Gallardo, BAL – It’s a dart, for sure, but the Padres still rank last in wOBA with a .282 mark against right-handers this season. They’re also striking out at a 24-percent clip. If you were willing to give Ubaldo a shot yesterday, you can take a stab at Gallardo too.

Archie Bradley, ARI – The wOBA splits against lefties make me a little nervous, but the Phillies offense continues to rank at the bottom against right-handers. A .294 wOBA with a 21.4-percent K-rate should be enough to help Bradley push through at least a quality start with decent strikeouts.

Max Scherzer, WAS – He’s the top name on the board and is facing a battered and bruised Mets team that is sitting on a 29th-ranked .275 wOBA over the last week with a 20.1-percent strikeout rate. Home runs are always the issue for Scherzer, but with the Mets sporting a .090 ISO over the last seven days, he just might be able to minimize the damage.

Danny Salazar, CLE – My favorite play of the day. The Braves had been hitting better over the week prior to this series against the Tribe, but they’ve been highly ineffective this series. They haven’t been striking out a bunch, but they’re not hitting for much power (.132 ISO over past week) and their .305 wOBA in that span ranks 26th in the league. Not to mention that .285 wOBA and .108 ISO against righties all year.

I’ll go a little unconventional here and say that I don’t mind using either Masahiro Tanaka or Carlos Martinez in a GPP or a cheap cash game today. I don’t love the match-ups and both will likely give up some runs, but I’ll accept a quality start from either guy today if you want to pay down a little bit. Just don’t expect any complete-game shutouts.

Edinson Volquez, KC – ONLY as a second pitcher to either Salazar or Scherzer on Draft Kings. His price point there is ridiculous, but the match-up is certainly a tough one. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him get hit around a little, but for $4,700 on DK, you almost have to use him.

James Shields, CHW – Could this be the day Shields finally figures it out? I’m not sure but with his price and the factr that the Twins have a .296 wOBA with a 24.8-percent strikeout rate over the past week, I’m willing to take a look in a $1 GPP.
