Sometimes these make-up games are a real pain in the ass. Thanks to the re-scheduling of a previously rained out Pirates/Dodgers game, Monday’s slate kicks off at 12:35pm ET which means you can’t use the full complement of games. Sure, the players are available, but if you’re playing on FanDuel, the lineups for the All-Day games lock well before lineups are posted. Of course you can guess at some lineups based on the handedness of opposing pitchers, but why take that chance and what if there are late scratches. A shame really, as I might have been interested in Francisco Liriano of all pitchers. But enough complaining. Let’s just look at the data and my recommendations.

Jake Arrieta, CHC – The walks have been a little out of control the last few starts, but you can’t deny that Arrieta continues to be one of the more dominant hurlers in the game today. He’s faced the Reds once already this season and tossed a complete-game shutout and over the past week, they’ve continued to struggle, as evidenced by their .290 wOBA and 22.2-percent strikeout rate over the past week.

Noah Syndergaard, NYM – The Royals surprisingly tagged him for three runs over six innings his last time out, but Syndergaard still has 15 strikeouts to zero walks over his last 14.1 innings. The run support may not be abundant, but he may not need it as the Nationals, a team he blanked for seven innings during a start in May, have posted just a .309 wOBA with a 20.3-percent strikeout rate over the last week. Their overall numbers against righties and at home have barely been league average, so look for a strong performance here.

Jeff Samardzija, SF – The Shark has been beaten up in three of his last five starts and in the two he didn’t get pounded, one of them saw him pulled after just 4.2 innings. But facing the A’s in the Battle of the Bay gives me hope. Yes, the A’s had some nice offensive output against the Angels in this last series, but their .296 wOBA against righties this year ranks just 27th in the majors and their work on the road has been just below league average. You probably won’t see a heap of strikeouts, but he should make for a decent, albeit expensive, start.

Trevor Bauer, CLE – Not only have the Indians been on a hot streak lately, but over his last four starts, Bauer is sporting a 1.42 ERA with a 32:6 K:BB over 31.2 innings. Now he gets a Braves team that has posted a weak .298 wOBA over the past seven days and has a .286 wOBA with a meek .106 ISO against righties this season.

Francisco Liriano, PIT – Yes, that’s right. As much of a ball of suck Liriano has been lately, I’m looking at him in this early start against the Dodgers. Not only are the Dodgers posting a .297 wOBA with a 20.5-percent K-rate over the past week, their .287 wOBA against lefties this season ranks 28th in the league.

Joe Ross, WAS – So he faces Syndergaard which always makes it tough to lock down the win, Ross should be able to handle this banged-up Mets squad which continues to show its vulnerable underbelly to opposing hurlers. They’ve posted a .280 wOBA with a 20.6 percent strikeout rate over the past week and their overall strikeout rate against righties this season is at 22.8-percent.

Robbie Ray, ARI – His numbers are most definitely not those upon which fantasy dreams are built, but this match-up against the Phillies looks pretty tasty right now despite the fact that they’ve swung the bats well recently. But the Phillies still rank dead last in wOBA against southpaws this season with a mark of .264 and that actually comes with a 23.4-percent strikeout rate.

Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS – Yeah, that’s right. I’m going to throw a dart at E-Rod today. The Rays may have hit lefties well this season, but their offense has been in the crapper over the past two weeks and they’re posting a .274 wOBA over the past week which ranks dead last in the majors. They’re also sitting on a 20.7-percent strikeout rate and a 30th-ranked 72 wRC+.
