Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star

Charlotte Motor Speedway

We are just shy of the mid-way point of the NASCAR season but here comes the NASCAR All-Star race this Saturday night from Charlotte Motor Speedway. It’s a different format this year to celebrate the 1992 race that was 70 laps long. Ahead of the race is a series of Opens that are 20, 20, and 10 laps long in which the winners automatically qualify for the All-Star race. Qualifying for the race also includes a no-speed-limit four-tire pit stop during three timed laps, which is a complete change from the normal racing qualifying procedure.

Ordinarily this would be an off weekend for DFS NASCAR being played on Draft Kings and NASCAR Fantasy Live, however there is a new DFS site on the scene, that you may have heard James Grande talking about, called Boom Fantasy. It’s a different kind of DFS game in which a roster doesn’t need to be setup and salaries don’t need to worried about. If you can answer a multiple-choice question, you can play on Boom. The NASCAR games involve a series of eight questions with the answers being a choice between two or four drivers and stage finishes, points for the race, laps led, and a cross-sport question of some form. For example, this week the cross-sport question asks you which of four basketball players will score the most points in the Western Conference Finals matchup between Golden State and San Antonio.

I figured this would be a perfect week to introduce this new game to you all with nothing else distracting us from getting going with Boom. There are still strategies to employ in the games with the point values for each potential winner of the question but in general it is less involved than Draft Kings can get. That’s not to say it’s an easy game. It can still be just as hard to win as cashing in Draft Kings. Qualifying order, track data, and history at the track has a lot to do with the point values assigned to drivers and therefore determines the best options to pick for each question. Though playing the underdog pick, when it makes sense, can be highly beneficial to you rising through the leaderboard ranks.

The All-Star race this week makes the strategy a bit harder than usual since there are eliminations during the race, that result in just 10 drivers making it to the final 10 lap section of the 70 lap race. I will not discuss my actual answers to the questions when talking about Boom for a couple of reasons, first because of the format being simply multiple-choice responses there are limited choices to begin with, and second because the fields are much smaller than those on Draft Kings or Fan Duel if the same question combinations are played than it reduces the pay outs for each winner. I will however discuss my thinking behind the approach to most questions.

I hope you all will begin to play Boom as I have and enjoy it much the same.
