Can we suggest Giancarlo Stanton? No? Okay. Well, that makes things a bit more difficult, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t going to continue to try our best to suggest the best waiver options available.

10-Team Leagues

Kevin Kiermaier, TB OF (28% ownership), FAAB Bid - $16 – Since coming off the DL. Kiermaier has unleashed a side of him we haven’t seen much of. Not only is he hitting for an impressive average, but also he’s hitting the ball with authority and out of the ballpark. He already has three homers in 10 August games and is slugging .690 to boot. We’re not sure if it’s sustainable and we lean towards that being the case, but if it is, the combination of power and speed is a fantastic late season addition.

Luke Weaver, STL SP (50% ownership), FAAB Bid - $17 – This recent three-game stretch of starts have been a doozy for Weaver. He has 28 K’s in his latest 19 innings including back-to-back 10 strikeout games. Not only are we getting the strikeout upside, but also he’s inducing groundballs at a 44.6-percent clip along with limiting the hard contact to 27.6-percent. This is the type of upside addition we suggest in any and all formats.

Kolten Wong, STL 2B, OF (29% ownership), FAAB Bid - $15-16 – Wong has been hitting everything in sight during August as he’s posted a .382 average. Not only that but he has posted .596 SLG and an OPS north of 1.037 OPS. Wong’s multi-position eligibility makes him extremely valuable in all formats.

12-Team Leagues

Shin-Soo Choo, TEX OF (27% ownership), FAAB Bid - $14 – Choo is never going to be worth the money Texas threw at him, but he’s sure trying to boost their morale a bit. He’s been on fire of late, notching six multi-hit games over his last 10 contests. He also happens to have three homers and 10 RBI over that span as well. Choo is well on pace to finish with 20-plus homeruns and 15-plus stolen bases.

Wilson Ramos, TB C (37% ownership), FAAB Bid - $12-13 – We were excited for Ramos’ return expecting him to be exactly how he was before his injury and that was stupid of us. It’s taken him some time to adapt but he’s begun heating up as he’s hit .390 over the past two weeks, including two homers, five runs and five RBI. Ramos is a top-flight offensive catcher that you can add for the stretch run. Hop on the train before it leaves the station.

Zach Davies, MIL SP (59% ownership), FAAB Bid - $11 – Davies has had his share of struggles throughout the early stages of his career, but he’s been rock solid of late. On the road alone he has a 36.2 scoreless innings streak. Not only that, but since the All-Star break he’s posted a 2.28 ERA and held his opponents in check, allowing a measly .231/.289/.309 slash. Davies isn’t a SP2 or maybe not even an SP3 at this point, but he’s worth the add in almost all formats.

15-Team Leagues

James McCann, DET C (28% ownership), FAAB Bid - $8 – This is the second catcher that’s made our list and both are well worth the addition at this stage of the season. McCann has broke out thus far in the second half of the season as he’s slashed .327/.387/.469 with a .371 wOBA. He’s notched a 32.2-percent line drive rate along with a hard hit mark of 40-percent. Thanks to the Tigers troubles, McCann should play almost every day and that pencils him in as a top-10 option for the remainder of the season.

Greg Bird, NYY 1B (22% ownership), FAAB Bid - $6 – We know Bird doesn’t have a big sample size this season, nor is it a very good one. That being said, we saw what Bird could do back in 2015 at full health. He’s shown some signs of life in the three games since returning from the DL and he could be a nice AL-only league acquisition.

Sal Romano, CIN SP (3% ownership), FAAB Bid - $3 – Romano has now notched three consecutive quality outings, picking up wins in two of them. Romano has quality stuff, averaging 96.1 MPH on his fastball, which would rank him second amongst qualified starting pitchers. Romano needs to limit the walks, but he’s inducing grounders at a 50-percent clip, which is definitely a plus. He has 15-team and NL-only league upside.
