Opening night is upon us for the 2016-17 NBA Season.  We have just 3 games on the slate so consider this a special edition of the playbook.  We won't normally do playbook and rankings on such a short slate so please keep that in mind as the season progresses.  We also won't be doing Sunday's during NFL Season till around Christmas time.

We don't have a very exciting slate for opening night with such few games.  The sites made some interesting decisions on the size of the big GPP's with $1 million contests on each site.  I think it would have been better to save them for tomorrow with more games on the schedule.

The games have some interesting true basketball appeal with the rebuilt New York Knicks headed to Cleveland.   Utah heads to Portland in what is likely to be the lowest scoring game and lastly the great match-up of Golden St. vs San Antonio.   With 3 games, you will likely have exposure in every game.  It seems the best value is to be had in the Utah-Portand game.

The status of Derrick Favors is likely to have the biggest impact of any player on opening night.  If Favors is out, it will open up some much needed value so that will be important to watch.  My initial prediction is that he misses the game so the playbook is based on that.  Utah is also without Gordon Hayward so others on the team will need to step up.

Please keep in mind that Draftkings has eliminated late swap but has added multi-position eligibility back this season.

I will be the lead man in our NBA DFS coverage.  My personal philosophy is avoided guys who only contribute in points.  If you rely on these players, you can really get some really disappointing performances.  Any concerns, issues or questions please hit me up in the forums or on twitter @tedschuster.
