DeMarcus Lawrence is appealing his suspension with the hope he gets at least a reduction.

Lawrence has an uphill battle to get his suspension reduced after violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The defensive end led the team with eight sacks so this will be a big blow to the Cowboys defense. Lawrence is a viable IDP option, but if his suspension is upheld, it will be hard for fantasy owners to invest a high draft pick on the defender.

Kevin McHale has withdrawn himself from consideration for the Kings coaching vacancy

Negotiations never got serious between McHale and the Kings, but it’s still notable that he dropped out. The Kings are in the midst of a very thorough coaching search as they try and find a candidate that can turn the franchise around and work with their star center DeMarcus Cousins, a task that has been very difficult over the last couple of seasons.

Matt Slauson is visiting with the Bills on Thursday.

There are many teams interested in the services of Slauson, a veteran guard who has proven to be durable throughout his six-year career between the Jets and the Bears. The Bills would be a good fit as they would like to upgrade the offensive line to help protect Tyrod Taylor and open up running lanes for LeSean McCoy and Karlos Williams.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he does not expect Jaylon Smith (knee) to be placed on injured reserve.

The Cowboys owner is probably being optimistic at this point as many expect the talented linebacker to sit out for the entire season after injuring his knee in Notre Dame’s bowl game. Smith would have been a top 10 pick if it wasn’t for the injury, but he dropped to the second round and landed with the Cowboys. The doctor who performed the surgery on Smith is the Cowboys team doctor as well so they may know something everyone else doesn’t. In dynasty leagues that use IDP, Smith is a player to invest in as his talent is off the charts.

Update: Jordan Reed will get $50 million over 5-years.

The Redskins must be confident Reed’s concussion history is behind him to commit to a long-term contract. When on the field, the tight end is one of the best at his position and he has quickly become a favorite target for quarterback Kirk Cousins. Reed finished 2015 with 87 catches for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games. Reed still needs to prove he can stay healthy for an entire season, but it was a positive sign for a guy who has missed so much time throughout his career.

Matt Moore could have his next start skipped.

This is not health related or wanting to give Moore an extra day of rest. The left-hander is currently scheduled to face the Angels who have a team batting average of .262 against lefties compared to a .239 batting average against right-handed pitchers. The Rays are going by the numbers on this which would push Moore’s start back. For the season, the lefty has an ERA of 4.95 with a WHIP of 1.21 and a 37:10 K:BB ratio.

Redskins have signed Jordan Reed to a 5-year contract extension.

Reed had a monster season in 2015 as he caught 87 balls for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games. The next step for the talented tight end is to stay healthy for an entire season, but last year was a positive sign for a player who has battled injuries throughout his career. Reed will enter 2016 as one of the first tight ends drafted and has quickly become quarterback Kirk Cousins’ favorite target. Fantasy owners will always have to worry about Reed’s concussion history, but the production is too good to pass up.

Redskins believe Matt Jones has the talent to be their every down back in 2016.

The Redskins approached the draft that way as they didn’t’ select a running back until the seventh round. Jones showed potential throughout the season, but the biggest knock has been his inability to hold on to the football. The Redskins running back fumbled the ball five times in 2015, losing four of them. The loss of Alfred Morris demonstrates even more in the Redskins belief that Jones can be the workhorse for an offense that took big strides last season.
