Ryan Rua will slot into the Rangers lineup playing first base and batting 6th against the left handed Sean Manaea. Rua is batting .329 against lefties this season with 3 home runs in 73 at bats. Rua also has 3 hits in 4 at-bats against Manaea this season.
Rangers prospect Joey Gallo made his second appearance of the season and first start Tuesday against Oakland, but today he will take a seat. He hit his first home run of the season on Tuesday in a 1-4 effort with 1 R and 1 RBI. Gallo still needs to earn a regular role in this offense away from players like Ryan Rua and Mitch Moreland. When he is in the starting lineup, Gallo’s power is enough to make him worth a roster spot in most deeper leagues.
This report comes after a report this morning from ESPN’s Ed Warder stating that the Jets and Fitzpatrick have had “no recent talks.” The situation is hazy between Fitzpatrick and the Jets, but it makes sense that both sides want to get a deal done. Fitzpatrick hasn’t had any traction with any other teams with training camp opening soon while the Jets have reportedly been sending Fitzpatrick multiple offers. Fitzpatrick had an outstanding season in the Meadowlands last season, completing 59.6% of passes for 3905 yards, 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. If Fitzpatrick signs with the Jets he will likely be just outside of the top 12 quarterbacks while receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker should get a boost in value and ADP. If a deal isn’t made before training camp kicks off, Geno Smith will take first team reps for the Jets.
Gregorio Petit will get the start for Nava in left field today against the Royals and starter Danny Duffy. Petit is hitting .200 this season against lefties and will bat 8th in the lineup tonight. He is not a good option for DFS lineups tonight.
Rangers GM Jon Daniels says that Harrell will join the rotation after being acquired in a trade from the Braves on Wednesday. Harrell earned a spot in the Braves rotation on July 2 and has had a successful month of July. In 5 starts, Harrell has a 3.38 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 21/12 K/BB ratio in 29.1 innings with 2 wins. The move to Texas should mean more wins for the 31 year-old righty, but he is still has very little value in season-long fantasy leagues. He could become a cheap value in DFS if he continues to succeed. He started on Tuesday and could start again on Sunday for Texas.
Jefry Marte will fill in for Choi at first base Wednesday against the lefty Danny Duffy. Marte will bat 5th, but has only hit .172 against lefties this season with 2 home runs in 29 at bats. This is a situation to avoid in DFS.
