The 49ers may not be inclined to extend linebacker Aldon Smith’s stay until 2015, but that doesn’t mean they’re done with him in 2014.
The team currently doesn’t plan to release Smith, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
More legal troubles for a guy who was gifted a second chance last year when he landed in rehab and was allowed to rejoin the team in the second half of the season? Come on. Maybe the 49ers and other NFL teams should take a stand and not tolerate the behavior. Who cares how great a pass rusher he is? Someone needs to put their foot down and that foot is me. Follow my lead, NFL, clean up your act already. The league is already suffering from rules changes and concussions and many speculate that the league will eventually go under in a decade's time. Let's not compound it by enabling stupidity. That being said, if Smith doesn't get suspended and plays next year, you'll want to grab him as a strong IDP play.
