Champ Bailey did not participate in Saints practice on Friday.

The 36-year-old is just dealing with the day-to-day bumps and bruises, so an extra day off here and there will likely be the M.O. for him moving forward. Consider him day-to-day for now.

New Orleans Saints safety Jairus Byrd (back) returned to practice Tuesday.

After a minor offseason procedure to alleviate a back issue, Byrd opened camp on the PUP list. Now, already back at practice, it looks like he'll be completely fine moving forward. He should remain a solid IDP choice this season, once again.

Saints placed safety Jairus Byrd on PUP List.

While Byrd underwent surgery to repair a disc issue in his back, the Saints don't expect him to be out for too long as most of the initial rehab work is over. He is expected to return to camp sooner than later and should be fine for the regular season.

Jim Corbett of USA Today thinks Saints WR Nick Toon in his second year looks poised for big things in 2014.

Is there a Saints receiver that someone doesn't think is poised fro a breakout? With a healthy Marques Colston joined by Kenny Stills and rookie Brandin Cooks, Toon is going to need to have one heck of a training camp to break through on the depth chart. Given the typical Saints passing attack, break-outs are certainly possible, but on top of surpassing the aforementioned three, he has to build up the trust and on-field rapport with Drew Brees to really make the impact about which Corbett speaks.

Mark Ingram will be a core player in the Saints' offense, according to general manager Mickey Loomis.

This is probably music to Ingram's ears as he is in a contract year and will be looking to get paid next offseason. With the Saints high powered offense, Ingram should see plenty of carries with a possible uptick in receptions as well. He should be viewed as a strong sleeper candidate.

The New Orleans Saints signed free-agent DE Tyrone Ezell.

Ezell was recently released by the Texans and will attempt to make the Saints' final roster; it is most definitely a long shot.
