Jose Fernandez (Tommy John surgery) will begin to play catch in the coming days.

Fernandez won't be ready for the start of the season and might not even pitch until sometime in the second half. It's tough to stash a guy like that because, while he looked phenomenal before surgery, we just don't know how effective he'll be once he's back.

Henderson Alvarez fell to 12-7 after he allowed one run on 11 hits and no walks with three strikeouts over seven innings in the Marlins loss to the Nationals on Sunday.

Thus concludes the best season of Alvarez's career. His 3.57 FIP and xFIP are not as good as his 2.65 ERA, and considering he struck out only 111 batters in 30 starts, his fantasy value for next season is limited.

Nate Eovaldi gave up two runs on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts over seven innings against the Nationals on Saturday.

Despite allowing just two runs over seven solid innings, Eovaldi recorded his eighth loss over his last nine starts as he finishes the season 6-14 with a 4.37 ERA and 1.33 WHIP through 33 starts. At the age of 24 he still has plenty of time to turn his career around, but until we see improvements he is best served on the waiver wire.

Enrique Hernandez went 1-for-2 win a home run, four RBI and one run scored in the Marlins 15-7 win over the Nationals on Friday.

Hernandez was one of the "other" pieces acquired in the trade that netted the Marlins Jarred Cosart. The 23-year-old utility man projects to be no more than a versatile bench player at the major league level.

Jacob Realmuto went 3-for-5 with a triple, double, four RBI and two runs scored in the Marlins 15-7 win over the Nationals on Friday.

Realtumo had a breakout year at double-A Jacksonville this season, slashing .296/.366/.459 with eight home runs in 97 games. Jarrod Saltalamacchia was a disappointment in first season in Miami, and Jeff Mathis is no better than back-up at the major league level. Realmuto has a shot at securing the back-up spot in Miami at some point next season. He's not in the fantasy conversation just yet.

Justin Bour went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and four runs scored in the Marlins 15-7 win over the Nationals on Friday.

Bour is an organizational guy who probably won't see much time on the field after this season. He can be avoided in fantasy leagues.

Adeiny Hechavarria went 4-for-5 with  two RBI and a run scored in the Marlins 15-7 win over the Nationals on Friday.

It was an absolute hit parade for the Marlins, who recorded season high in both runs (15) and hits (22). Hechavarria has improved markedly from last season, when he was the least valuable player in the National League by fWAR. Today's outburst raised his season line to .279/.310/.360 with just one home run and seven steals. He should be avoided at all costs for fantasy purposes.

Andrew Heaney allowed four earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out three over four innings in the Marlins 15-7 win over the Nationals in Game 2 of their doubleheader on Friday.

Heaney left the game when the Marlins were down 4-2, but before long they started tacking on crooked numbers, ending the night with a season high 15 runs. Unfortunately for Heaney, he didn't pitch enough innings to qualify for the win. It was a mixed bag for Heaney this season, alternating promising minor league starts with shaky major league ones. He ends the season with a 5.83 ERA in 29 1/3 major league innings, and a 3.28 ERA over 137 1/3 minor league innings.
