The Marlins have claimed RHP Preston Claiborne off waivers from the Yankees.

The 26-year old right-hander showed a little bit of potential during a call-up with the Yankees last season, but can often come off as lacking control at times. It's very possible that with the Marlins, he can recapture the strikeout rate he had in the minor leagues as he doesn't have to worry about every pitch flying out of the park all the time. Fantasy-wise though, there's not much to be had.

Marlins are getting RHPs Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo from the Giants for Casey McGehee.

The Marins traded McGehee to the Giants to be Pablo Sandoval's replacement, and 23-year old pitching prospect Kendry Flores and 22-year old reliever Luis Castillo. Neither player has done much in the minors so far, but they both have a solid makeup.

Yankees are on the verge of acquiring P Nathan Eovaldi from Marlins for Martin Prado.

The Yankees may be willing to give Jose Pirela a shot at the starting second base job which would make Prado expendable. Eovaldi has some upside, but a move to Yankee Stadium and the power-hitting AL East could prove to be a bit of a nightmare for the soon-to-be 25-year old. Fantasy-wise, there's no real strikeout potential and even though he's got a ground ball rate close to 45-percent, that may not be enough with a move to the AL.

Update: Marlins deal with Michael Morse is complete.

Morse agreed to a 2-year deal with the Marlins will likely fill their hole at the first base position. Last year for the Giants Morse hit .279 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI over 131 games and should hit in the middle of the Marlins lineup given his power potential.

Sources confirm OF Michael Morse is in agreement with the Marlins on a 2-year deal pending a physical.

Morse would immediately slot iun as the Marlins regular first baseman. Could he get spelled by Garrett Jones at times? Sure, but overall, you'd have to think that he would be the primary and offer up a solid bat to protect Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup. Stay tuned for the monetary details, but this one sounds like it's a done deal.

Marlins acquire RHP Craig Stem from the Dodgers as part of the Kyle Jensen trade.

Completing the November trade between the Dodgers and Marlins. Stem posted a 5.61 ERA in 61 innings split between High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Chattanooga in the Dodgers' minor league system. No reason to run to grab him for your dynasty league although looking at his splits, he improved tremendously once he was demoted to Rancho Cucamonga and settled in.

Marlins may consider trading Dan Haren if he plans to retire rather than join them. Haren prefers to be with a team out west.

Haren spent his time out on the east coast with the Nationals and apparently didn't enjoy it very much. Look for him to hold the team hostage here. No word on whether they can simply give him back to the Dodgers and get something else in return as part of the original trade.

Update: Scott Sizemore signed a minor league contract with the Marlins.

The days of talking about Sizemore while using words like "potential" and "sleeper" and "upside" are long gone. He's back-up material at best and the Marlins will utilize him in just that fashion. The only way he'll have any legit fantasy value is if there's a rash of injuries.

Marlins selected LHP Andrew McKirahan in the Rule 5 draft.

The lefty reliever showed some real nice proimise in the Cubs organization, in particular with a shrinking walk rate as he moved through High-A and into Double-A. He's still a bit of a work in progress, but he may pan out as a decent reliever in the second half.

Miguel Rojas has been traded to the Marlins as part of a deal that also sends Dee Gordon and Dan Haren to Miami in exchange for Andrew Heaney and other players.

Rojas hit .302 with 27 runs, four home runs, 13 RBI and seven stolen bases over 51 games for Triple-A Albuquerque last season but struggled at the plate for the Dodgers hitting .181 over 85 games.
