Bucs coach Lovie Smith doesn't plan to use Doug Martin to the extent that old coach Greg Schiano did the last two years.

The Bucs plan is to utilize all of their running backs in an effort to keep Martin healthy coming off of a serious shoulder injury. However, Martin is expected to get the lion share of the carries while being used out of the backfield on passing plays. With a very good wide receiving core on paper, the running game for the Bucs could be one of the better backfields to invest in, that is if everyone lives up to their full potential.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers SS Mark Barron (undisclosed) is healthy and ready for training camp to open.

Barron recorded 88 tackles last season to go along with four interceptions. He is a mainstay in the Buccaneers secondary and should be in for another solid season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers FS Dashon Goldson (foot) is expected to participate in training camp, according to head coach Lovie Smith.

Goldson recorded 72 tackles last year for Tampa Bay and will be locked into the starting free safety spot. He may miss some time early in training camp, but once he gets back on the field, he should be good to go.

Da'Quan Bowers was involved in an incident that led to the arrest of another individual Saturday.

Because Bowers reported to workouts out of shape for the second year in a row, he has fallen out of favor with the Buccaneers brass. Had he been the person arrested, he would have been a prime candidate to get cut. For now, he'll remain with the Buccaneers and come off the bench.

Buccaneers have released former Bears CB D.J. Moore.

The Buccaneers signed him during the offseason, but have released him before he even got to play a game with them. He played for the Carolina Panthers last season, but appeared in only two games. He will likely sign with another team for organizational depth.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers left guard Carl Nicks has been cleared to play.

Good news for the Bucs as they weren't sure if Nicks was going to miss a chunk of time early in camp. He missed all of last season with a severe MRSA infection that required surgery to clean out his left toe in October and is still working his way back. He's going to be counted on as more of a supporter than a starter though as the team revamped its offensive line in the offfseason.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers DE Adrian Clayborn will need a solid showing in camp to hold on to his starting job. DE William Gholston, DE Da'Quan Bowers and DE Steven Means are other candidates for the job.

Clayborn has yet to live up to his full potential now entering year four, so it is due or die for this former first-rounder. Through three seasons with the Buccaneers, Clayborn has only 13.0 sacks and five forced fumbles, but it is still his job to lose so expect him to show up ready to go now that there is a few solid competitors fighting him for his job.

Mason Foster is expected to start at middle linebacker, but he may have some competition in the form of offseason acquisition Dane Fletcher.

While Foster is the favorite to win the starting job, he will need to have a strong training camp and earn the job. One issue that Foster will have to overcome is his ability to cover running backs and tight ends, something that defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier expressed concern about.
