Coach Lovie Smith says Josh McCown's thumb is getting better. He is still not ready to throw a football.

Glennon has played well since starting for the injured Josh McCown and likely will have a chance to take back his starting job if he continues to play well.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins did not practice on Wednesday.

Jenkins played every offensive snap for the Bucs on Sunday against the Steelers. He was coming off a foot injury and Tampa is giving him a rest this week during practice. Mike Evans is out for the next 2-3 weeks and Austin Seferian-Jenkins is a fast rising Tight End 2 who could see double-digit targets against the Saints.

Josh McCown (thumb) has no surgery planned at this time,  but most likely won't play this week.

Apparently, McCown's thumb showed improvement during a throwing session Monday which is why they've opted to put off surgery for the time being. However, the improvement he did show is nowhere near where he needs to be to play Sunday. Mike Glennon will get the start this week.

Buccaneers signed free-agent WR Kevin Cone to the practice squad.

Cone spent the preseason with Miami before getting cut and landed on the Cardinals' practice squad. They also cut Cone and now he has found a spot with the Buccaneers. He spent a lot of time on Atlanta's special teams unit in 2013.

Buccaneers released TE Ian Thompson.

The Buccaneers had depth at tight end which is the reason why Thompson was cut. He could be brought back at some point.

Buccaneers released LB Carlos Fields.

Fields was most recently on Tampa Bay's practice squad. He will look to latch on with another team.

Buccaneers rookie WR Mike Evans will be out an estimated 2-to-3 weeks with a groin strain suffered during Sunday's game against the Steelers.

This is a bummer considering the Bucs offense finally showed some life in their upset against the Steelers. Evans made a few nice grabs and with Mike Glennon at the help, the passing attack actually looked worthwhile. He'll miss the next few weeks but should prove to be a solid option down the road as he works the field opposite Vincent Jackson.

Patrick Murray was 2-for-2 on field goals and successfully converted all three of his extra-points during the Buccaneers' 27-24 win over the Steelers on Sunday.

Murray came through for the Buccaneers on Sunday, converting both of his field goal attempts, one from 50 yards out and another from 27 yards. Although he is probably not on anyone's radar, Murray makes for a nice bye-week filler, especially now that the Buccaneers offense seems to have finally woken up after an 0-3 start.

Vincent Jackson caught just three passes on 10 targets for 32 yards, but hauled in the game-winning touchdown during the Buccaneers' 27-24 win over the Steelers on Sunday.

Through four weeks of action Jackson has just 13 catches for 134 yards, but has found the end zone in back-to-back games keeping him afloat for his fantasy owners. After a solid performance by Mike Glennon on Sunday it is hard to imagine that the team will turn back to Josh McCown once healthy, so we can expect to see more action from Jackson moving forward, especially if Mike Evans is forced out for an extended period of time.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught three passes on seven targets for 44 yards against the Steelers on Sunday.

Although Seferian-Jenkins hauled in only three of his seven targets in Week 4, his activity in the team's offense is certainly an encouraging sign moving forward. At 6'5", 262 pounds the Buccaneers rookie tight end makes for a huge target in the red zone and should continue to see plenty of targets moving forward now that it appears his ankle is fully heeled. Those in deep leagues will want to keep an eye on him as the season progresses.
