Mike James (shoulder) will not play in Saturday's preseason game.

James is listed behind a slew of running backs on the teams unofficial depth chart. Last year James was taken in the 6th round of the NFL draft and had 60 carries for 295 yards which included an impressive performance against the Seahawks where he carried the ball 28 times for 158 yards.

Buccaneers have signed free-agent G R.J. Mattes.

Mattes will get a look as the Bucs try to shore up their offensive line. He's a bit of a long shot, but it can't hurt to give a look.

Buccaneers cut defensive end James Ruffin.

Ruffin was, at best, a bubble player, with very little shot of cracking the 53-man roster. The Bucs will move on from here and see if there's anyone else out there who may be helpful to the team.

Buccaneers have acquired guard Rishaw Johnson from the Chiefs in exchange for backup safety Kelcie McCray.

Johnson appeared in three games for the Chiefs last year making one start but following this trade is expected to compete for a starting job with the Buccaneers.

Alterraun Verner (hamstring) will play sparingly in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills.

Verner continues to be eased back into action and will be handled with kid gloves moving forward. He should be fine for the regular season but the Bucs just don't want to ruin any of the progress he's already made thus far.

Da'Quan Bowers, who is nursing a groin strain, has been put on notice by coach Lovie Smith, that he could be in danger of being cut.

Smith came out and said that "every day you miss a practice you grow more in danger of losing your spot on this team." Bowers, who has dealt with injuries throughout his career, is well-liked by the coaching staff, but hasn't practiced in over a week now and is clearly falling behind the rest of the players who are in the trenches day in and day out. If Bowers isn't careful, he could find himself out of a job on the final day of cuts.

Buccaneers have claimed T Edawn Coughman off waivers from Buffalo.

Coughman was just recently sent packing by the Bills, but the Bucs could use a little depth on the offensive line so they'll kick the tires on Coughman and see what he's got to offer. Again, just a depth move here so the impact is beyond minimal.

Mike Jenkins (hamstring) is out for Saturday's game vs. the Bills.

Jenkins continues to be limited by this hamstring issue so the Bucs will hold him out of this preseason game and he will be re-evaluated daily beyond that. Jonathan Banks will likely get the starting nod in his place.

CB Alterraun Verner (hamstring) still being eased onto the practice field. No assurances he will suit up at Buffalo Saturday afternoon.

The thought was that Alterraun Verner could make his preseason debut on Saturday against the Bills but he has been downgraded to questionable. Verner has missed Tampa's first two exhibition contests after injuring his hamstring on the third day of camp. There really is no reason for the team to rush him back to the field, they will just do everything they can to make sure he's 100% for Week 1.

Buccaneers released veteran WR Lavelle Hawkins.

While the Bucs have named their top three receivers -- Vincent Jackson Mike Evans and Chris Owusu -- they are now sifting through the rest of the pile to see who stays and who goes. Obviously we see which pile Hawlkins landed in.
