Jimmie Ward (quadriceps) returned to practice Wednesday.

Ward was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, and he should be on the field in week nine against the Rams barring an unforeseen setback before the game.

Chris Culliver (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday.

Culliver has 18 tackles on the year, and he should be on the field for their week nine match up with the injury-depleted Rams.

Patrick Willis (toe) practiced on Wednesday. Willis said he did not sustain turf toe, but rather a strained toe muscle.

Willis will be at the helm of the 49ers defense this weekend, but if San Francisco were to get up big, do not be surprised if they pull Willis to refrain from further injury.

The Sun-Times reported Wednesday night, the Cubs were ?closing in on a multi-year deal to hire Joe Maddon? and ?an announcement was expected as early as Thursday.

This was expected as soon as Maddon opted of his contract in Tampa Bay for no reason. Maddon has been successful in the past of turning young teams into talented squads rattling off winning seasons consistently. The Cubs will hope that Maddon can do that, if they get this deal done.

K.J. Wright, who played the last two games at middle linebacker in place of the injured Bobby Wagner, will move back to this usual outside linebacker position this Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.

Wright helped out Seattle by sliding into the middle of the front seven, but he will slide back out to his normal position in week nine. Brock Coyle will start at middle linebacker which is why Wright is moving back to his outside linebacker position.

Ronnie Hillman, who was listed as limited with a shoulder injury Wednesday, told the Denver Post that his shoulder feels fine and he won't be limited Sunday at New England.

Montee Ball is expected to return this weekend, but Hillman is the starter in Denver. In the last four games since Ball got hurt, Hillman has two 100 yard games, and scored two touchdowns in week seven against the 49ers. Hillman is the starting back in the Denver and is the fantasy ball carrier to own from the Broncos.

Kenny Britt (hip) was limited in practice Wednesday.

Britt becomes the top wide receiver in St. Louis after Brian Quick's season ended last week. Britt is questionable moving into week nine.

Andrew Bogut (illness) played 18 minutes in Wednesday night's win over the Kings.

It was uncertain whether Bogut was going to be able to play in the opener, but he was able to see 18 minutes of action. That number, and his overall statistics should increase when he shakes off the illness.

Nemanja Nedovic will not receive a third-year option from the Warriors.

Nedovic must not fit in with the Warriors' plans moving forward, so they decided not to pick up his option.

Harrison Barnes will have his fourth-year option picked up by the Warriors.

Barnes received the start last night, and the Warriors obviously see Barnes in their future plans.
