Athletics are strongly considering adding a sixth starter for one game next week in Houston, either Jesse Chavez or Drew Pomeranz, in order to line up their top four starters to pitch in Anaheim.

Joey Votto has yet to resume baseball activities. He was cleared to begin jogging Thursday and had a positive strength test performed recently. What's missing is a timetable.

Zack Greinke tested his elbow during a shortened bullpen session on Thursday. Manager Don Mattingly said he is fine to start Saturday.

Manager Bud Black said, depending on how he feels, Joaquin Benoit could pitch Friday. If not then, Saturday.

After throwing a bullpen session on Thursday, it appears as if Benoit will be able to return to the Padres bullpen without having to be placed on the disabled list. Benoit has been excellent in both the setup role and as the team's closer this season, owning a 1.64 ERA and 0.85 WHIP through 49.1 innings while maintaining a 59:14 K:BB rate in that stretch. Unless the Padres aren't in any close games this weekend, we should see him back on the mound in no time.

Trevor Plouffe went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI against the Indians on Thursday.

Plouffe has logged just three hits over his last last games, but two of those hits have gone for extra-bases while adding five RBI along the way. He is now sitting on a .242 average with nine home runs and 60 RBI through 414 at-bats, but should only be owned in deep league formats while he struggles in the second half of the season (.232 BA through 112 AB).

Jason Worilds has suffered a right knee injury and will not return to the game.

Worldis burst onto the scene a season ago logging 65 combined tackles and 8.0 sacks as he solidified himself as the next-coming in the Steelers historically good defense. His injury sustained on Thursday did not look too serious, but until the Steelers release an update on his status he should be considered day-to-day moving forward.

Kennys Vargas went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, one RBI and two runs scored against the Indians on Thursday.

Vargas is now slashing .316/.354/.513 with four home runs, 17 RBI and 12 runs scored over his forts 19 career big league games as he continues to make the best of his opportunity. Prior to his promotion, Vargas smacked 17 home runs over 356 at-bats at the Double-A level, so there is a chance he could be playing a bit over his head right now, but is still worth a shot in deep league formats if in need of hep at first base.

Arrelious Benn has a head injury and will not return.

Benn has been a major disappointment since being taken in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is currently fighting for a roster spot as a part of the Eagles receiving core. Even if he is able to bounce back form this injury there is little chance he makes a fantasy impact in 2014 considering he has just 59 receptions for 862 yards and five touchdowns over his first four seasons.

Sean Spence has a right knee injury and will not return to the game.

Spence is coming back from a career-threatening knee injury sustained during his rookie season, as the three-year veteran has yet to record a tackle in a regular season game. Although the extent of his knee injury has yet to be released, this is terrible news considering the knee issues he has had in his past. The backup inside linebacker was slated to make the 53-man roster once final cuts were on deck.
