2016 Fantasy Football Matchup Report: Week 4
Jeff Mans
Matt Forte Headshot

Matt forte's knee injury is something he's been dealing with for awhile.

Forte is 30 years old so he is going to have the normal soreness during the season and will be rested throughout the week to ensure he is ready to rock on gameday. However, the Jets need to be more conscience of the workload they are giving Forte as he has already received 67 carries and nine catches through the first three weeks. It’s nice as a fantasy owner to know Forte is the workhorse, but it will help nobody if he is worn out by December. Bilal Powell was finally used more in Week 3, but that had more to do with the game flow than the Jets trying to get him more involved. This is something to monitor as the season progresses.

Eric Decker Headshot

Eric Decker (shoulder) is questionable for Week 4.

There is a lot of pessimism surrounding Decker and his injured shoulder. The wide out is going to have an MRI to find the severity of the injury, but fantasy owners need to start planning for another option. The Jets did this in Week 3 with Brandon Marshall and not only was he active, but he played most of the snaps. That could be the case again with Decker, but for now, it appears he could be closer to inactive than suiting up. If Decker is out for any significant amount of time, Marshall would clearly see a boost in targets and Quincy Enunwa would again be heavily involved in the passing game.

Joe Haden Headshot

Joe Haden is practicing Thursday.

Haden had to miss Week 3 due to a groin injury so it’s a positive sign that he is practicing. The Browns are going to need Haden this week as they go up against a passing game in the Redskins with DeSean Jackson and the emerging Jamison Crowder. The Redskins offense is one to target in DFS this week and they would receive another boost if Haden is sidelined.

Dez Bryant Headshot

Troy Aikman says he can't imagine that Dez Bryant will play Week 4.

This is all speculative and this situation won’t get any clearer until closer to kickoff. Even if Bryant doesn’t practice this week, he could still play in the game. Fantasy owners need to have a backup plan as the timetable for this injury is usually a couple of weeks. Hopefully, the Cowboys help fantasy owners by ruling out the star receiver before Sunday. Cole Beasley and Terrance Williams would receive a huge boost if Bryant is out for any length of time.

Rashad Jennings Headshot

Rashad Jennings (left thumb) is unlikely to play Monday vs. Vikings.

Jennings was forced to miss Week 3 due to the injury which opened up a chance for Shane Vereen in the running game. However, Vereen is now out for the season with a torn triceps. Orleans Darkwa was the next man up and finished the game against the Redskins with 53 yards and a touchdown. It appears the Giants will use the dreaded running back by committee with Bobby Rainey and rookie Paul Perkins in the mix. Perkins was drafted in the fifth round in the 2016 draft and is the guy to stash in deeper leagues as he is the most talented of the trio.

Stephen Anderson Headshot

Stephen Anderson did not participate in Wednesday's practice due to a hamstring injury.

The tight end suffered the injury in the Texans last game when he was forced to leave. Anderson has caught five passes for 40 yards with no touchdowns this season and continue to be avoided in all formats.

Mike Trout Headshot

Mike Trout (shoulder) is sore, but manager Mike Scioscia said he expects him to be fine and play on Friday.

Trout had to leave the game in the eighth inning after taking a fastball off the shoulder and will be sore for a few days. However, that shouldn’t keep him out of the lineup. The star outfielder has had another incredible season with a slash line of .318/.441/.556 with 29 homeruns, 99 RBIs, 123 runs and 27 stolen bases.

Bryce Harper Headshot

Diamondbacks and Nationals game called due to rain.

There wasn't expected to be a postponement, but weather can be a fickle thing. Arizona wins this one by a score of 3-0.

Miguel Cabrera Headshot

Indians and Tigers game called due to rain.

Tigers get the win in the rain-shortened outing. Detroit won 6-3 in five innings. Miguel Cabrera's three-run homer was the deciding factor in this one.

Lloyd Carrington Headshot

Redskins signed CB Lloyd Carrington to the practice squad.

Carrington will remain on the practice squad until he is either promoted or released. Consider him as nothing more than positional depth at the moment.
