JaCoby Jones Headshot

Jones is having a strong spring, and the injury to J.D. Martinez could open the door to the 25-year-old making the roster out of spring training, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Jones is not a candidate to replace Martinez in right field, but the Tigers could use Mikie Mahtook and Tyler Collins there. Both Mahtook and Collins were penciled into a center field platoon, so if they see some time in right, that could open the door to Jones in center. Jones, the No. 10 prospect in the Tigers' system, is slashing .324/.390/.568 through 18 spring training games. The organization wants to make sure he gets regular playing time, so if he does begin the year in the majors, expect him to get plenty of at-bats. He's someone to keep an eye on late in fantasy drafts or on the waiver wire.

Geovany Soto Headshot

Soto is hitting just .158/.238/.158 over 19 spring at-bats.

Soto, a non-roster invitee, hasn't received a lot of work this spring, but is still expected to the open the season on the 25-man roster. He'll share the catching duties with Omar Narvaez. With the White Sox expected to introduce several young starters later this season, having the 34-year-old veteran backstop around will be a helpful knowledge base. Lucas Giolito, Carson Fulmer and Reynaldo Lopez, three of the organization's top pitching prospects, are expected to transition from Triple-A Charlotte to Chicago in 2017.

Henry Ellenson Headshot

Ellenson was recalled from the D-League's Grand Rapids Drive on Sunday, Rod Beard of The Detroit News reports.

Ellenson will travel with the Pistons to New York in advance of Monday's game against the Knicks, but he's not a safe bet to be active for that contest with Detroit not expected to be missing any of their regular rotation options. The rookie first-round pick has made just 14 appearances with the Pistons this season, with his most recent one coming all the way back on Jan. 18.

Josh Gordon Headshot

The Browns likely will trade or release Gordon (suspension) if he is reinstated by the NFL, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Gordon applied for reinstatement in early March and expects to get an answer around the time of the NFL Draft. He's been suspended for 43 of the last 48 regular-season games, with his only appearances since 2013 occurring late in the 2014 season. He'll still only be 26 years old for the upcoming season, and he did look good in his two appearances last preseason, but then entered an inpatient rehab facility instead of rejoining the Browns after Week 4. While his willingness to take responsibility for his actions should help his case, Gordon's lengthy track record of substance-abuse issues means that any reinstatement likely would have a slew of conditions attached. Given his age and modest contract, Gordon might still fetch a middle-round pick in a trade. It's also possible, though not likely, that the Browns might reconsider their stance and give Gordon another shot.

John Hicks Headshot

Hicks was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Hicks had a very brief stint with the Tigers last September, logging two at-bats in one game. The 27-year-old is the organization's third catcher, so he'd likely be the first one up if James McCann or Alex Avila were injured. Hicks slashed .303/.356/.485 at Triple-A Toledo last season, so he could put up decent numbers if he did get the call.

Calvin Pickard Headshot

Pickard gave up four goals on 29 shots in Saturday's loss to the Oilers.

That's the third loss in a row for Pickard, who has given up 12 goals in that span. The 24-year-old has only managed 13 wins in 41 starts this season, as the Avalanche sit at the bottom of the standings. Pickard has turned in some really strong performances this month, but it's this recent stretch that serves as a reminder that there are better options out there. With Colorado eliminated from playoff contention, Pickard is not an ideal fantasy play if you're searching for victories.
10:37 am (EST)
Derek Ryan Headshot

Ryan recorded an assist for the third straight game in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Devils.

With 25 points in 58 games, Ryan has been a pleasant surprise for the Canes this season, providing decent secondary scoring in what has generally been a bottom-six role. He makes for a solid waiver-wire pickup candidate in deeper leagues down the stretch.
10:36 am (EST)
Zane McIntyre Headshot

McIntyre was sent back to AHL Providence on Sunday, Mark Divver of The Providence Journal reports.

McIntyre served in a backup role to Anton Khudobin during Saturday's contest against the Islanders, but his demotion back to the AHL club suggests Tuukka Rask (lower body) could be ready for Tuesday's tilt against the Predators. If Rask were to wind up missing the contest, McIntyre could be recalled another time Monday, but most likely wouldn't see any time in the crease.
10:32 am (EST)
Edward Mujica Headshot

Mujica was reassigned to minor league camp on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

The 32-year-old faced long odds to make the Opening Day roster, and now he figures to head to Triple-A. Mujica saved 37 games back in 2013, but he's nothing more than organizational depth at this point.
10:31 am (EST)
David Robertson Headshot

Robertson has returned to the White Sox's training camp from the World Baseball Classic and is uncertain when he'll next pitch for Chicago, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Robertson last pitched in the final game of the WBC, mopping up Team USA's 8-0 championship win over Puerto Rico. He's already had plenty of work, much of it in the playoff-like atmosphere that is the WBC, so finding opportunities for him over the final week of training camp isn't paramount. Robertson will open the regular season as Chicago's closer, though he's in the same boat as other veterans on the roster of this rebuilding team. His name came up in trade talks all offseason, and he's expected to be dealt at some point.
