Week 3 Q and A Saturday Cover Image
John Timu Headshot

Timu was promoted to the 53-man roster Saturday, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Given the Bears' injuries up to this point, it's not surprise Timu was activated. What would be a surprise, however, is if he's asked to contribute from the defensive side of the ball Sunday. Currently, Timu projects to function as a special teams asset for the foreseeable future.

John Brown Headshot

Brown (quad) worked on the side during the media portion of Saturday's practice, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' website reports.

Brown did the same Friday and registered a "Did Not Participate" on the injury report, so it seems he will not be able to get in any practice work this week. His status for Monday's game against the Cowboys will be revealed at some point Saturday, but it's looking likely he will be out a second week in a row.
3:55 pm (EST)
Nicky Delmonico (L) Headshot

Delmonico is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Delmonico admitted that he was feeling some lingering pain in his right wrist earlier in the week, so he'll get his second game off in three days as the White Sox look to limit his workload. Willy Garcia will start in left field and bat eighth in his absence.
3:50 pm (EST)
Howie Kendrick (R) Headshot

Kendrick is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, according to Dan Kolko of MASN Sports.

Kendrick was the only Nationals regular to start Friday's game, so manager Dusty Baker decided he would give him a day off Saturday. Jayson Werth will slide over and cover left field Saturday.
3:43 pm (EST)
Ryan Zimmerman (R) Headshot

Zimmerman is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, according to Dan Kolko of MASN Sports.

The Nationals are starting to rest their regulars in advance of the postseason, and manager Dusty Baker will give Zimmerman another day off Saturday after holding him out Friday as well. Adam Lind will get another start at first base in Zimmerman's place.
3:40 pm (EST)
Seth Smith (L) Headshot

Smith is not in the lineup Saturday against the Rays.

Smith is just 3-for-29 (.103) over 12 games this month, so he'll head to the bench for a sixth straight game as Austin Hays draws another start in right field. With Smith struggling, look for Hays, who is one of the Orioles' top prospects, to continue to see the majority of starts in right field down the stretch.
3:38 pm (EST)
Noah Syndergaard (R) Headshot

Syndergaard (lat) has been confirmed as the starting pitcher for Saturday's game again the Nationals.

Syndergaard is scheduled to throw only one inning Saturday, but he will be taking the mound for the Mets for the first time since Apr. 30. As long as all goes well he could make one more appearance before the regular season concludes. Fantasy owners did not get what they hoped out of Syndergaard in 2017, but barring any setbacks the rest of way, his return to the mound should erase any concern heading into the offseason.
3:36 pm (EST)
Mikie Mahtook (R) Headshot

Manager Brad Ausmus said Mahtook is likely done for the rest of the season after experiencing a Grade 2 groin strain Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Mahtook exited Friday's game in the fourth inning with a groin injury, and an MRI on Saturday confirmed the issue is serious enough to end his season prematurely. With the Tigers eliminated from playoff contention, it doesn't make sense to push Mahtook to return for a few meaningless games. The 27-year-old compiled a respectable .276/.330/.457 line with 12 homers and six stolen bases in 109 games this season, and should vie for a spot in the Tigers' outfield in 2018. Andrew Romine and Alex Presley should see increased playing time down the stretch with Mahtook out.
3:26 pm (EST)
Travis d'Arnaud (R) Headshot

D'Arnaud is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Nationals.

D'Arnaud has been on fire of late, hitting three home runs and driving in seven over his last three games, but he is just 4-for-16 with six strikeouts in his career against Saturday's opposing starter Stephen Strasburg, so he will be held out in favor of Kevin Plawecki.
3:21 pm (EST)
Lane Adams (R) Headshot

Adams is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies.

Adams started the last four games in the Braves' outfield, but he will be held out Saturday after going just 1-for-13 over that span. Jace Peterson will get the start in left field in Adams' place.
