Brendan Gaunce Headshot

Gaunce (shoulder) is getting closer to his return, per Canucks coach Travis Green, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports.

The Ontario native has yet to make his season debut and remains on injured reserve for the time being. Gaunce has a lofty profile as Vancouver's first-round (26th overall) draft pick, though he's off to a slow start to his NHL career between this injury and posting a mere six points through 77 games with the Canucks to date.
1:16 pm (EST)
Michael Beasley Headshot

Beasley (ankle) recorded six points (2-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-4 FT), four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one turnover across 18 minutes during Saturday's 107-111 loss to the Pistons.

Beasley was dealing with a sore ankle going into Saturday's contest, so it's certainly promising that he was able to take the court for 18 minutes. With Lance Thomas failing to get off the bench himself, Beasley saw a fairly solid workload, though the two will still likely battle for minutes behind Kristaps Porzingis at power forward moving forward. Beasley's ankle injury should no longer be a concern.
1:15 pm (EST)
Cam Robinson Headshot

Robinson is questionable to return to Sunday's game after suffering an ankle injury, Jaguars' public relations director Tad Dickman reports.

Robinson's injury appeared worrisome after he was carted to the locker room rather than walking off under his own power. Josh Wells is filling in at tackle with Robinson sidelined for the time being.
1:15 pm (EST)
Jacob Markstrom Headshot

Markstrom will start in the blue paint Sunday, facing the Red Wings on the road, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports.

This is the only game scheduled for Sunday, so Markstrom's upcoming performance will primarily impact poolies playing in non-DFS settings. Through six games, Markstrom is 2-2-1 with a 2.73 GAA and .902 save percentage; he's been fading a bit after starting the year yielding just four goals on 77 shots through his first pair of games against Edmonton and Ottawa, respectively.
1:09 pm (EST)
KJ McDaniels Headshot

McDaniels was waived by the Raptors on Sunday, Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders reports.

McDaniels was buried on the depth chart on the wing and hadn't seen the floor over the Raptors first two games of the season. That prompted his release Sunday, which now leaves the Raptors with an open roster spot. McDaniels could field some interest elsewhere in the NBA, but if not, he'll likely head to the G-League in an attempt to restore his value.
1:05 pm (EST)
J.J. Barea Headshot

Barea scored 19 points (7-13 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-3 FT) while adding five rebounds and three assists across 22 minutes in Saturday's 107-91 loss to the Rockets.

Barea came off the bench Saturday even with a depleted backcourt, but dropped 19 points in 22 minutes, which tied him for the team-high in points with Yogi Ferrell with 19 less minutes. Barea's sharpshooting will likely be limited as the Mavs get healthier in the backcourt, but he has shown flashes of scoring prowess when presented capped minutes.
1:02 pm (EST)
Jimmy Howard Headshot

Howard will start in goal Sunday versus the visiting Canucks, Ansar Khan of reports.

The veteran backstop needs to shrug off his dud of an outing from this past Wednesday, when he yielded three goals on four shots from the Maple Leafs at their venue. Howard had a 3-1-0 record, 1.97 GAA and .942 save percentage heading into that game, though, so that's been an outlier to an otherwise strong start to the season for Detroit's top netminder. Howie's about to face a Vancouver team that currently sits in fifth place within the Pacific Division.
1:01 pm (EST)
Joel Edmundson Headshot

Edmundson blocked two shots Saturday against Vegas and now leads the league with 30 blocked shots.

More is being asked of Edmundson since Jay Bouwmeester continues to nurse a fractured ankle, and he's stepping up to the plate. Edmundson has just one goal this season, but his total of 13 hits, 30 blocked shots and 14 shots on goal through nine games proves the 24-year-old is instrumental to the St. Louis blue line.
12:58 pm (EST)
Yogi Ferrell Headshot

Ferrell tallied 19 points (6-15 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six assists, three rebounds and one steal across 41 minutes in Saturday's 107-91 loss to the Rockets.

With most of the Mav's backcourt not in action Saturday, Ferrell drew the start and received a team-high 41 minutes of playing time. He showed an ability to score, albeit not in the most efficient way possible. Ferrell will likely head back to the bench when first-round rookie Dennis Smith Jr. and other members of the backcourt come back into the mix.
12:57 pm (EST)
Frank Ntilikina Headshot

Ntilikina (ankle) didn't practice Sunday, Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reports.

Ntilikina had to be carried off the practice court late last week with a sprained left ankle and was subsequently held out of Saturday's contest. The fact that he wasn't able to practice Sunday doesn't bode well for his chances of suiting up for Tuesday's matchup with the Celtics, though for now, Ntilikina can still be considered questionable for that contest.
