Joey Votto went 1-for-2 with three walks against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon was up to his usual tricks on Wednesday as he decided to pitch around Votto for most of the game, walking him three times. Votto’s specialty has always been his ability to reach base and despite his run-of-the-mill .244 average, he was on the base paths four times on Wednesday, raising his OBP to .375. Votto hit north of .300 in the month of June and has looked much more like himself over the past month. Votto is still very valuable in all fantasy leagues out there.

Billy Burns will replace Khris Davis Wednesday night.

Davis was scratched with a left shoulder contusion, so Billy Burns will replace him int he lineup. Oakland will be without arguably its best power hitter tonight and possibly moving forward if his shoulder doesn't heal as quickly as hoped. Consider him day-to-day at the moment.

Ruben Tejada is expected to serve as the club’s primary option at third base versus left-handed pitching, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Tejeda is going to provide the team with better defense, not exactly offense at the position. He was hitting .176 before going down the quadriceps injury, so temper your expectations for the third baseman.

Brett Wallace went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run on Wednesday against the Orioles.

Wallace has really struggled of late. Since June 16, Wallace is just 4-for-16 with one home run and three RBI. His playing time has diminished due to the recent poor performances, which has drove his ownership in fantasy formats down tenfold. For the season, he’s hitting just .212 with five home runs and 14 RBI.

Christian Friedrich allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven in five innings on Wednesday against the Orioles.

The strikeouts hadn’t been there for the southpaw lately, but they came back tonight. He still allowed four earned runs in five innings, which is far from ideal, but if he can maintain a decent strikeout percentage, he could find a way to be useful in NL-only formats. The San Diego offense isn’t likely to get him a ton of runs, so wins might be tough to come by for the southpaw. His next start will come on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Yovani Gallardo allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six in six innings on Wednesday against the Padres.

Gallardo has been below average this season, but leave it to the San Diego Padres to make him look like a starting pitcher for the first or maybe second time all season long. Six men reached during his time on the bound and his six strikeouts were his highest single game total all season long. Even in the deepest of AL-only formats, Gallardo isn’t worth rostering at this point of the fantasy baseball season. Just do yourself a favor and leave him off your roster. His next start will come on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mark Trumbo went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored on Wednesday against the Padres.

All Trumbo continues to do in 2016 is hit the ball. He’s hitting .282 with 23 home runs, 60 RBI, 45 runs scored and one stolen base. He is an AL MVP candidate at the moment and he should never leave your lineup. Trumbo is off to another hot start, however, his numbers tend to decline a bit in the second half of the season. For his career, he slashes .263/.314/.506 in the first half, compared to .242/.290/.419 after the Midsummer classic.

Jonathan Schoop went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, three runs scored and one RBI against the Padres on Wednesday.

As I wrote in my Category Impact article this week, Schoop is seeing the baseball extremely well. His batting average is up to .301 on the season, thanks to going 11-for-22 over his last four games. He has 13 home runs and 46 RBI on the season and if he continues to get at-bats near the top of the order, his fantasy value will continue to skyrocket. He’s playable in all formats at the moment.
