Baltimore is desperate for pitching help as they look to grab the AL East and with San Diego in full sell mode it would make sense that these two teams have discussed more than just a possible Upton for Jimenez swap. Cashner has been linked to a few other teams in potential deals as well so it looks as if the Padres have created quite the market for themselves.
The O's are dealing with some injuries to their outfield and Upton is having a really solid season which sees him hitting .259 with 46 runs, 16 home runs, 45 RBI and 20 stolen bases. In return the Padres would be receiving the struggling Ubaldo Jimenez who is 5-9 with a 7.38 ERA this season. A change of scenery and more importantly a move from the A.L to the N.L could be good for Jimenez should this trade go through. The Padres are rumored to be looking to deal off Andrew Cashner so Jimenez could be a replacement for him should any trade involving Cashner occur.
The Padres are obviously looking to sell high on Upton after his impressive first half as they are reportedly in talks with multiple teams who are interested in his services. Late last night it was reported that Baltimore was looking to send Ubaldo Jimenez to San Diego for Upton but the Padres also wanted a prospect in return which Baltimore is not yet willing to do.
