Steven Matz (L) Headshot

Matz has been diagnosed with a nerve issue in his elbow and could require surgery, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

Apparently Matz has been pitching through pain all season, which would help explain his sharp drop-off in performance from last season (6.08 ERA in 66.2 innings this season after 3.40 ERA in 132.1 innings last season). The nerve issue he's dealing with is thought to be similar to the one that forced fellow starter Jacob deGrom to undergo season-ending surgery last year. Tommy Milone is expected to take his place in the rotation Tuesday, and would likely continue to do so if Matz is forced onto the DL.

Dustin Pedroia (R) Headshot

Pedroia (knee) participated in directional drills Monday, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.

As planned, Pedroia resumed participating in baseball activities Monday, and he'll continue doing workouts in Boston while the team is playing a series against the Indians in Cleveland. Until he's brought off the disabled list, Eduardo Nunez will be in line to see regular time at second base.

David Price (L) Headshot

Price (elbow) threw 60 feet from flat ground Monday, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports.

As long as he doesn't experience any soreness following Monday's workout, the plan is for Price to throw from 60 feet again Tuesday. While this is a step in the right direction for Price, who's rehab was put on hold last week, it's still uncertain whether or not he'll be able to return to action this season.

George Kontos (R) Headshot

Kontos said he was dealing with groin tightness Sunday but is available to pitch Monday against the Dodgers, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Kontos was able to get through a pregame workout with no issues Monday, clearing the way for him to play in the series opener against the Dodgers. He owns a 1.80 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 7:1 K:BB through five innings with the Pirates, so he will be a welcomed addition to the bullpen against a tough Dodgers team.

Mitch Moreland (L) Headshot

Moreland was scratched from Monday's lineup due to neck soreness, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Following a collision with Brett Gardner in Sunday's contest, Moreland is dealing with a bout of neck soreness. Fortunately, it doesn't look like Moreland suffered a serious injury, as he passed concussion tests and is expected to be back in full health Tuesday. He'll sit out of Monday's game while Brock Holt starts at first base.

Cody Bellinger (L) Headshot

Manager Dave Roberts said Bellinger (ankle) will be held out of Tuesday's lineup, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

While Roberts noted Bellinger's ankle was improving, he said there was still swelling, so the Dodgers will play it safe and give the rookie some extra time to rest. Adrian Gonzalez will continue to man first base until Bellinger returns to the lineup, which will be Wednesday at the earliest.

Lonnie Chisenhall (L) Headshot

Chisenhall's (calf) activation from the disabled list has been delayed due to the upcoming birth of his child.

Chisenhall had been on a rehab assignment at Triple-A Columbus, where he'd gone 3-for-8 with a home run over three games. While he figures to be in full health, Cleveland will wait to bring him off the DL so that he can be with his family. Now that Jay Bruce is a member of the club, Chisenhall will likely take on a reserve role in the outfield upon his activation.
