Carl Soderberg Headshot

Soderberg will take part in the 2017 IIHF World Championship.

It was a shockingly disappointing season for Soderberg as he managed a paltry 14 points -- compared to 51 in 2015-16 -- and put up a minus-26 ratings. The blueliner also saw a significant drop in ice time as he averaged just 13:27 and was used sparingly on special teams. The 31-year-old is under contract for another three years with the Avs which means international competitions might be the closest he gets to winning for the next few years.

José Abreu Headshot

Abreu left Wednesday's game in the top of the fifth inning after doing the splits while trying to field a grounder at first base, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports.

His left leg stretched awkwardly on the play, but the exact nature of the injury is currently unknown. Todd Frazier moved to first base with Tyler Saladino moving to third base and Yolmer Sanchez coming in to play second.

Noel Acciari Headshot

Mark Divver of the Providence Journal relays that for now, it looks like Acciari (unspecified issue) won't be available for AHL Providence's playoff series against Wilkes-Barre Scranton.

The gritty forward is evidently banged up after the big club's first-round playoff series against the Senators. The 25-year-old finished up the regular season with two goals and five points in 29 NHL contests and six goals and 14 points in 30 AHL tilts. Looking ahead to 2017-18, Acciari has a solid chance to stay in Boston all season, though in his fourth-line role with the B's, his fantasy upside will be limited.

Gift Ngoepe Headshot

Ngoepe was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Ngoepe should give the Pirates some extra depth in the infield with David Freese (hamstring) unavailable Wednesday and Adam Frazier (hamstring) on the disabled list. It's not expected that Ngoepe will be in store for an everyday role after submitting a .308 on-base percentage at Triple-A, but his ability to play multiple infield positions could prove valuable off the bench.
3:24 pm (EST)
Kyle Seager Headshot

Seager (hip) is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Tigers, MyNorthwest.com's Shannon Drayer reports.

He was available as a pinch hitter Tuesday (although he was not used), and that likely remains the case as he sits for the third game in a row. Taylor Motter will start at third base and hit fifth.
3:23 pm (EST)
Dovydas Neverauskas Headshot

Neverauskas was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

After being promoted to the big club earlier in the week, Neverauskas made his big-league debut Monday against the Cubs, covering two innings in relief and conceding one run on two hits. The right-hander, who works in the mid-to-high-90s, should be back with the Pirates before long, but he'll head back to the minors for the time being with the big club more in need of an extra infielder.
3:21 pm (EST)
Callum Booth Headshot

Booth stopped all 25 shots he faced in QMJHL Saint John's 5-0 win over Chicoutimi in Game 3 of the QMJHL Semifinals on Tuesday.

Traded from Quebec to Saint John earlier in the season, Booth has been stellar since joining the QMJHL's best team in late December, and he has been even better in the playoffs. He is sporting a 1.55 GAA and .925 save percentage in 10 postseason contests for the Seadogs and his stock has risen steadily since the Hurricanes made him the 93rd overall pick in the 2015 draft. Booth signed his entry-level deal with Carolina in mid-March.
3:18 pm (EST)
George Springer Headshot

Springer (hamstring) is out of Wednesday's lineup against the Indians.

He appeared in Tuesday's game and went 0-for-1 in his only plate appearance, but will nonetheless be out of the lineup for a third straight game. It seems like Springer is close, and he will likely be available as a pinch hitter again, but Josh Reddick gets the start in center field and will lead off.
3:17 pm (EST)
Félix Hernández Headshot

Hernandez (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL on Wednesday, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

We're still awaiting word as to the full extent of the issue, but Hernandez will be forced to miss at least one start as a result of the shoulder injury. While the expectation is that the shoulder is structurally sound, with manager Scott Servais calling it "dead arm as much as anything," Hernandez's status and a potential return date will remain up in the air until the results of his MRI are disclosed.
