Justin Grimm Headshot

Justin Grimm has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

It's been a far cry from a season ago for Grimm in 2016 with an ERA north of 4.70 in 34 innings pitched. He is being sent down to make room for the Cubs needed spot starter in Brian Matusz, who will close out the Mariners series on Sunday. Grimm will likely stay down at Iowa for the foreseeable future until he resembles the pitcher from last year who posted a sub-2.00 ERA.

Craig Kimbrel Headshot

Craig Kimbrel will rejoin the Red Sox in Seattle and will likely be activated off the 15-day disabled list on Monday.

Kimbrel was pitching one inning in a minor league rehab appearance on Saturday and with that going well, he will rejoin his teammates in the Pacific Northwest. He has been out since just prior to the All-Star break with a minor knee procedure being performed but pitching decently as Boston's closer before being on the shelf. Brad Ziegler will likely only have save chances every once in a while with his return and thus should resume a setup role in the pen.

Tre Mason Headshot

Rams list Tre Mason on the did not report list as training camp opened.

According to a statement made by Head Coach Jeff Fisher at the opening day of Rams training camp, the running back hasn't been in contact with the team or his teammates this offseason and is only communicating every so often through is agent. Eyebrows started to raise as it was discovered that the police had been called to his house five times since March 28th and that his family was concerned for his mental state. The Rams listed him on the did not report list in order to remove him from the 90-man roster so they can at least see another play at camp and make a decision about Mason when the time comes. He is not expected to have a major role in the offense this year with Todd Gurley getting the vast bulk of the carries so whether he shows up or not, he's not really a fantasy asset.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis Headshot

Brewers right fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Pirates on Saturday.

Nieuwenhuis took Pirates reliever Hernan Perez deep in the eighth inning for his 10th home run of the season which gave the Brewers a three-run cushion late in the game. The 28-year-old has hit safely in seven out of his last eight starts for Milwaukee but is still hitting just .218 in 274 plate appearances this season. Nieuwenhuis has experienced a huge power surge over the last week as he’s hit five home runs and drive in eight runs in his last eight games. He had five home runs in his previous 81 games, so I wouldn’t expect his hot streak to continue for much longer. I would be surprised if he’s in the lineup tomorrow as he’s a left-handed hitter going up against a left-handed pitcher and on top of that Nieuwenhuis has hit just .102 with five hits in 26 at-bats against lefties this season.
