Yasiel Puig (R) Headshot

Puig is out of the lineup Sunday against the Braves.

Puig is coming off a multi-hit game Saturday, and has made five consecutive starts in right field. He'll be held out of action for the series finale, however, giving way to Enrique Hernandez.
2:45 pm (EST)
Wilmer Difo (B) Headshot

Difo will bat second and start in left field Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Difo typically mans the middle infield spots, but has started one game in center field this season. He's a long ways away from gaining outfield eligibility, and that likely won't be happening any time soon, provided the team's outfield gets healthy as anticipated. Both Michael Taylor and Jayson Werth are expected back at some point in early-August. Furthermore, Andrew Stevenson was called up to provide outfield depth in a roster move earlier Sunday.
2:40 pm (EST)
Ji-Man Choi (B) Headshot

Choi was outrighted Sunday to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Choi didn't generate any interest off waivers after he was designated for assignment earlier in the week, so he'll remain in the Yankees organization, though he'll no longer occupy a spot on the 40-man roster. The Yankees decided to keep Garrett Cooper as their backup first baseman over Choi, who went 4-for-15 with two home runs and five RBI during his brief time in the big leagues.
2:39 pm (EST)
Joe Panik (L) Headshot

Panik is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres, Andrew Baggarly of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

The Giants typically don't keep the lefty-hitting Panik on the bench against right-handers, but he'll find himself in that predicament for the second time in five games while Miguel Gomez picks up another start at the keystone. With Panik mustering a .219 on-base percentage in July, manager Bruce Bochy could be rethinking the 26-year-old's standing as an everyday player, though the Giants aren't exactly brimming with attractive alternatives.
2:35 pm (EST)
Matt Wieters (B) Headshot

Wieters is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Wieters has started five straight games and collected three doubles over the last two. He'll be given the day off Sunday, however, while Jose Lobaton mans the backstop in his stead.
2:35 pm (EST)
José Pirela (R) Headshot

Pirela is out of the lineup Sunday against the Giants.

The Padres reinstated Manuel Margot from the paternity list earlier Sunday and immediately inserted him back into the lineup at center field, and with Hunter Renfroe and the hot-hitting Jabari Blash flanking Margot in the outfield, there won't be any room for Pirela. While starts could be harder to come by for Pirela if Blash continues to perform well, the former's ability to play third base or second base should help his case for sustaining at least semi-regular at-bats. Pirela has provided a spark for an anemic Padres offense since being promoted from Triple-A El Paso in early June, batting .293 across 38 games.
2:29 pm (EST)
J.D. Martínez (R) Headshot

Manager Torey Lovullo expects Martinez (hand) to be able to pinch hit Sunday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Martinez hasn't played since being lifted from Wednesday's game with a hand injury, but it appears a return is just around the corner. If he's able to pinch hit Sunday, look for Martinez to be back in the starting lineup at some point during the upcoming three-game series against the Braves.
2:29 pm (EST)
Taijuan Walker (R) Headshot

Walker was reinstated from the paternity list prior to Sunday's game.

Walker was scratched from last Thursday's start due to the birth of his son, and now that the three days are up, he will return to the team. He's currently in line to start Tuesday against the Braves.
2:23 pm (EST)
Cliff Pennington (B) Headshot

Pennington is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox.

Pennington had logged the previous three starts at second base, but that was only because the opposition rolled out left-handed starters in each of those contests. With righty Rick Porcello on the mound for Boston in the series finale, Pennington will give way to Nick Franklin, who is expected to see the bulk of the starts at the keystone on the strong side of a platoon.
2:22 pm (EST)
Albert Pujols (R) Headshot

Pujols is out of the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox.

It looks like Pujols is simply receiving a maintenance day following his three-hit performance in Saturday's win. Pujols, who is hitting .269 since the All-Star break, will give way to Yunel Escobar at designated hitter, while Luis Valbuena covers Escobar's normal spot at third base.
