Polanco was activated from the disabled list Thursday, but manager Clint Hurdle opted to give his young outfielder one more day of rest before returning to regular action. Now that he's ready to resume his normal duties, "El Coffee" will look to improve upon the .706 OPS he held prior to getting injured.
The top prospect in the White Sox organization had been out since May 15 with a thumb injury, though appears to be healthy and ready to return to game action following a minor absence. Moncada will resume his starting spot with Triple-A Charlotte, where he has gotten off to a hot start with a .331/.401/.504 slashline and 15 RBI through 34 games.
Prior to the deal, Raburn was hitting .277 for Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox organization. Given the lack of outfield depth the Nationals have with both Adam Eaton (knee) and Chris Heisey (biceps) on the shelf, it wouldn't be too surprising to see Raburn find his way back to the big leagues if his performance in the new organization warrants it.
After suffering a setback earlier this month, it appears Shields is well on his way to returning to regular action, but he'll likely need one or two rehab starts to build up his arm strength before resuming a rotation spot. The right-hander compiled an atrocious 6.77 ERA over 22 starts with the White Sox last season, yet allowed just three earned runs over 16.2 innings in his first three starts this year prior to landing on the DL.
Yelich left Tuesday's game early and sat out of Wednesday's bout entirely, but it seems that his hip isn't ailing him anymore. He'll resume his regular spot in the lineup while looking to improve upon the .256 batting average he holds on the season.
Steckenrider appeared just once during his brief cup of coffee in the big leagues and didn't allow a run, but he'll retreat to the minors with David Phelps returning from the bereavement list. Steckenrider will look to sustain the success he had in the minors prior to his call-up as evidenced by his 1.25 in ERA in 16 relief appearances for the Baby Cakes.
The 30-year-old wasn't scheduled for an off day Thursday after sustaining a left hand injury Wednesday, but ended up filling in for the injured James McCann, who subsequently was placed on the 10-day DL with a hand laceration. The sudden turn of events means Avila will be in line for the lion's share of starts behind the plate and give him further opportunities to prove his worth as an everyday starter. He's off to a great start thus far, batting .310 with 10 RBI and a .953 OPS this month. Avila takes the spot of Miguel Cabrera at first base for the opening game Friday, as John Hicks fills in behind the dish.
Edwards, a hard-throwing right-hander, will head back to Triple-A Omaha once he logs a few innings at the lower levels. A member of the Royals' 40-man roster, the 25-year-old managed a solid 3.96 ERA while striking out 74 over 61.1 innings at Double- and Triple-A combined last season.
The all-world pivot was held pointless in three games of the grueling series versus Ottawa, but he'll look to expose a Nashville team that's been dampened at the center spot due to the loss of Ryan Johansen, who underwent emergency surgery on his thigh following a Game 4 loss to the Ducks. We know you'll be starting Crosby every chance you get, and the real debate at this point is whether he'll generally justify a higher fantasy draft selection than Edmonton's Connor McDavid, who'll be wrapping his mitts around the Art Ross Trophy at the awards ceremony in June.
