Trea Turner (R) Headshot

Turner (wrist) played five innings at shortstop and went 0-for-3 at the plate in his first rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.

After being moved to the 60-day disabled list earlier this month, Turner won't be eligible for activation until Aug. 29, so it's expected that he'll remain with Syracuse for at least the next week. Unsurprisingly, Turner was eased back into action in his first game action since June 29, when he fractured his right wrist after being hit by a pitch. Turner should eventually play full games with Syracuse on back-to-back games before the rehab assignment comes to an end, at which point the Nationals will reinsert him back into the lineup in an everyday role at shortstop or center field.

Jayson Werth (R) Headshot

Werth (toe) went 1-for-3 while playing five innings in left field in his first rehab game with Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.

Werth singled his first at-bat and then flied out and lined out in his subsequent two plate appearances before heading to the bench in the top of the sixth inning. According to Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com, it's expected that Werth will stick with Syracuse through at least early next week, at which point the Nationals will assess the progress he's made in his recovery from the small fracture and bone bruise on his left foot. Once he's activated from the 60-day disabled list, Werth should settle back into an everyday role in left field.

Hector Velázquez (R) Headshot

Velazquez was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Velazquez will join the Boston bullpen in place of Matt Barnes (back), who was placed on the 10-day disabled list in a corresponding move. It's expected that Velazquez will work in long relief for the Red Sox after giving up eight runs over 17.2 innings in his four appearances (two starts) with the big club earlier in the season.

Matt Barnes (R) Headshot

Barnes was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a lower-back strain, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

The move to the DL comes after Barnes failed to record an out while allowing both batters he faced to reach base in Monday's loss to the Indians. The Red Sox recalled Hector Velazquez from Triple-A Pawtucket to fill Barnes' spot in the bullpen, but it's expected that Joe Kelly and Brandon Workman will be the main beneficiaries of more high-leverage opportunities while Barnes is sidelined.
