Achter has a robust 4.97 ERA in 25 1/3 big league innings, but he has thrown well in Salt Lake this season despite recording just six strikeouts in 11 innings. The Angels had to use four relievers Saturday after starter Matt Shoemaker recorded only seven outs, so Achter will likely serve as bullpen depth until Shoemaker's spot comes up in the rotation.
Shortstop Jhonny Peralta (thumb) fielded ground balls before Sunday's game as he clears another step during his rehab. The Cardinals are hopeful that Peralta could begin a rehab assignment around May 21st.
If Peralta can indeed begin a rehab assignment around the 21st, he would likely return to the Cardinals in the first week of June, or perhaps even sooner. Aledmys Diaz has slowed down after a scorching hot start, and he could get demoted when Peralta returns. If you own Diaz you should hold onto him, but if he struggles for a few more days it will be time to drop him. As for Peralta, he is worth rostering in most leagues, as he may only miss another month.
Gomez has been out since Saturday, and if he cannot return to baseball activities Monday or shortly thereafter, he could wind up on the disabled list. If you own Gomez in a weekly league he should not be in your lineup, but it is too early to drop him despite his struggles at the plate. Preston Tucker is playing left field and batting seventh with Gomez out, and he could be worth a look in deep leagues.
This is just another nail in the coffin of Joey Gallo making a fantasy impact in 2016. Even if Gallo comes back relatively quickly, the Rangers will not rush him to the majors. Gallo will almost certainly get regular playing time for some team in 2017, but until then fantasy players will just have to wait.
It will be interesting to see if the result of Game 1 has any bearing on Curry's status for Game 2. That there is any chance at all could bode well for Curry to play later in the series, but that may depend on how long the series lasts. Shaun Livingston will continue to start with Curry out, while Leandro Barbosa will back him up.
The Astros are facing lefty Rich Hill, so Valbuena will sit in favor of Marwin Gonzalez. Gonzalez has a .310 wOBA against lefties in his career, so while he may be an upgrade over Valbuena, he shouldn't get much fantasy consideration.
Reynolds has been getting pretty consistent playing time, but he will still sit against the occasional righty. Of course, his fantasy owners probably aren't missing much if Reynolds sits on the road against righties, and Ben Paulsen is an interesting DFS play with Reynolds out. Paulsen is 4-for-12 in his career against Shelby Miller.
With Roberto Perez hitting the disabled list Sunday, Moore will serve as the backup to Yan Gomes. Moore has played parts of seven seasons in the big leagues, but has just 287 plate appearances to his name. A career .201/.241/.309 hitter, Moore does not have any value for seasonal or DFS formats.
