T.J. Rivera (R) Headshot

Rivera is not in the lineup Thursday against the Padres due to a minor arm injury, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

With regular first baseman Lucas Duda traded prior to Thursday's ballgame, it was surprising that Rivera was not included in the starting lineup, although it appears that the injury is largely responsible for that. No word has come forth as to what the actual injury is, so consider him day-to-day for the time being. Jay Bruce will man first base for the evening, although Rivera certainly could pick up some starts there moving forward once he's healthy again.

José Reyes (B) Headshot

Reyes is not in the lineup Thursday against the Padres, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Reyes is batting .306 since the All-Star break, but he also hasn't gotten a day off in that span. The Mets will give him his first night off since July 5 by having Asdrubal Cabrera move over to shortstop and Matt Reynolds man the hot corner for the evening.

Shane Peterson (L) Headshot

Peterson was designated for assignment Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Peterson's playing time had been dwindling with the increased usage of Corey Dickerson in the outfield, and with Lucas Duda entering the fray, Dickerson will likely spend the bulk of the remainder of 2017 in left field. This makes Peterson a redundant roster piece, so he'll head off the 40-man roster to make room for the new addition. Peterson has enough MLB experience under his belt that he could garner some interest on waivers, although he'll likely act as an organizational depth piece even if he changes organizations.

Martín Prado (R) Headshot

Prado (knee) has not been making much progress since landing on the DL on July 17, and could require surgery in the near future, Craig Davis of the Sun Sentinel reports.

Prado suffered the right knee sprain during a game against the Phillies, and it hasn't improved near the rate at which the third baseman would've hoped. Manager Don Mattingly stated that the club could make a decision as soon as Friday, prior to the game against Cincinnati. In his place, Derek Dietrich continues to get a majority of the playing time at third base.
6:00 pm (EST)
Lucas Duda (L) Headshot

Duda's was traded to Tampa Bay on Thursday, with reliever Drew Smith heading to New York, Joel Sherman of the MLB Network reports.

Duda will fit in nicely with Tampa Bay, as the 31-year-old is set to receive ample playing time between first base and the DH spot, while likely spending a majority of time in the latter position. Thus far in 2017, Duda is hitting .246/.347/.532 with 17 home runs and 73 RBI. Since the Rays are in New York facing off against the Yankees for a four-game series this weekend, Duda could be available as soon as Friday night. Moving forward, this will give Corey Dickerson more starts in the outfield while decreasing Brad Miller and Trevor Plouffe's playing time in the DH role.

J.C. Ramírez (R) Headshot

Ramirez (9-9) was tagged with the loss Thursday against the Indians despite allowing just two runs on five hits and six walks in 6.2 innings pitched. He also struck out four.

Although the basepaths were frequently packed with Indians, Ramirez managed to work his way out of trouble more often than not. Unfortunately, the Angels' offense was unable to muster up enough run support to get him the victory. The 28-year-old's ERA is now down to 4.29 on the season, although his lack of command certainly made his WHIP jump up a tick. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start Wednesday against the Phillies.
