Carlos Rodon Headshot

Carlos Rodon (wrist) will start Sunday's game against the Twins.

Rodon hasn't pitched since July 5th with a strain in his pitching wrist. He hasn't had the breakout season that some were expecting from the 23-year old lefty, with an ugly 4.50 ERA. He had been striking out nearly a batter per inning and also improving his control from a season ago, dropping his walk rate from 4.59 BB/9 to a much more reasonable 3.13 BB/9. He became home-prone though, giving up 15 homers already this season across 16 starts. The Twins are sneakily effective against left-handed pitching, sitting at 11th in baseball in OPS against southpaws at .765, which puts a wet blanket on what may look on the surface like a gravy matchup.

Zack Greinke Headshot

Zack Greinke (oblique) will need to make one more rehab start before returning from the 15-day disabled list.

Greinke continues to work his way back from a left oblique strain, and hasn't pitched since June 28th. He had a slow start to the season before rounding more into typical Greinke form, and has a 3.62 ERA with a 7.49 K/9 while sporting his typical outstanding control. Despite the mediocre numbers he did manage to go 10-3 in his 17 starts, and even though the Diamondbacks have been a massive disappointment this year, he's got a shot at a win any time he takes the mound.

Matthew Kemp Headshot

Braves have acquired Matt Kemp from the Padres for Hector Olivera.

Olivera will head to San Diego where he will play for his third team in two years since signing a 6-year, 62.5 million dollar contract with the Dodgers last season. He's been regarded as an all-around bust to this point, posting a .245/.296/.387 line in only 30 games at the MLB level and is currently suspended 82 games for misdemeanor assault and battery. Kemp will be an immediate starter for the Braves, who will now trot out Kemp, Ender Inciarte, and Nick Markakis as their starting outfield trio. The Padres are reportedly paying for a portion of Kemp's contract, although the full financial details have yet to be released. Kemp is having a solid year, hitting .262/.285/.489 with 23 home runs for the Padres, and has been an effective fantasy option despite a total collapse in his walk rate, which has fallen to 3.7% from his career rate of 7.5%.

C.J. Cron Headshot

C.J. Cron (hand) could start swinging by Tuesday and return in two weeks.

Cron had hand surgery on July 12th to repair his hand after being struck by a pitch. He was really coming on before the injury, posting an .831 OPS and June and a 1.284 OPS in his 33 July at bats before succumbing to the injury. He'll have some rust to knock off upon his return, so his owners will want to keep their expectations in check.

Hector Olivera Headshot

Hector Olivera has been pulled from Triple-A Gwinnett's game.

He's rumored to be heading to San Diego in a trade that would bring Matt Kemp to the Braves. Olivera was suspended for 82 games earlier this season for assault and battery and had disappointed on the field as well. It would largely be a financially-driven trade, as both players are owed a lot of money over the next several seasons.

Michael Bourn Headshot

Michael Bourn is out of the Diamondbacks lineup on Saturday.

Despite putting up a .328 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season, Bourn will take a seat against Dodgers lefty Scott Kazmir tonight. Chris Owings will play center and bat eighth, with Rickie Weeks in left and Yasmany Tomas in right. With David Peralta now back from the DL, Bourn will see his at-bats diminished. Bourn has stolen eight bags in his 61 games this season, and holds little fantasy relevance moving forward.

Clayton Kershaw Headshot

There is still no timeline on when Clayton Kershaw (back) will throw a baseball again.

Sadly, it has been speculated that Kershaw could be finished for the season. The Dodgers are very much in playoff contention in the NL, so while they don't want to rush the best pitcher in baseball back and perhaps cause another setback, they need him as soon as possible. It's not looking good for August, but with any luck his fantasy owners will have him back for the head-to-head playoffs in their leagues in September. Kershaw was amidst another Cy Young-caliber season before his back injury, going 11-2 with a 1.79 ERA and 30.8% K-BB% in his 121 innings of work.

Ramon Flores Headshot

Ramon Flores has been penciled into the Brewers lineup with Ryan Braun being a late scratch.

Flores will play left field and bat seventh against Jameson Taillon and the Pirates. Flores is hitting only .209/.293/.257 this season in 266 at-bats. It's a pretty bland lineup tonight for the Brewers, who feature Hernan Perez batting third. Taillon could be in line for a nice game here.

Ryan Braun Headshot

Ryan Braun has been scratched from Saturday's lineup with right side tightness.

Well isn't that vague. Braun is one baseballs day-to-day kings, sitting out games here and there with seemingly random sore body parts all the time. He's been very good while he's played however, and in 85 games this season he's hit .321/.383/.515 with 14 home runs and 12 steals. His teammate Jonathan Lucroy is sitting out today as well amidst copious trade rumors, and it wouldn't be surprising if this was more of the same behind the curtain for Braun. The Brewers would love to deal Braun, but there hasn't shaped up to be much of a demand for outfielders at this years' deadline, not to mention the haul it would take to acquire him.
