We are right in the middle of fantasy football draft season which means staying up to date on injuries is more important than ever. While we have already seen several catastrophic injuries that have ended players’ seasons, you can be we will be cringing a few more times over the next couple weeks when or if we hear some bad news on other impact players. This past week saw some big names in the headlines, so without further adieu, here is the next edition of the Fantasy Football walking wounded.
Football is BACK!! Check out our 2013 Fantasy Football Rankings NOW to be ahead of your competition.
Jamaal Charles (RB-KC).
The fantasy football world went into mass hysteria last week when Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles was carted off the practice field. Test results revealed a mild foot strain which will likely keep him out of the remaining pre-season games. He is expected to return to practice early next week and his status as a top fantasy draft choice remains status quo.
Doug Martin (RB-KC).
The fantasy football community was dealt another cardiac shocker later in the week when Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin left the last pre-season game after taking a hard hit to his head. He passed all of the concussion tests and will be fine for the regular season. Martin is a popular fantasy choice this season. If you are skeptical at all about him, then let it be for reasons other than his health. He will be just fine.
Robert Griffin III (QB-WAS).
With all of the mixed messages and confusion over the medical reports surrounding Robert Griffin III, you would think he was being treated by Alex Rodriguez’s doctors. Irrespective of whatever is being reported, you should count on the fact that Griffin will be starting for the Redskins in Week 1 as he comes back from off-season knee surgery. The biggest question surrounding Griffin is how this injury will affect his running game as he will have to make smarter decisions to avoid further injuries.
Roddy White (WR-ATL).
Falcons wide receiver Roddy White suffered a low ankle sprain on Thursday during a pre-season game against the Ravens. He is listed as day-to-day but it is very likely he will be held out of some practices and the remaining two pre-season games to ensure that he is ready for the regular season.
Jordy Nelson (WR-GB).
Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson underwent surgery on his knee last week after which initial reports indicated he could miss 4-6 weeks. This put his status for the beginning of the regular season in jeopardy and his draft value has suffered as a result. However, the Packers are hopeful that Nelson will be ready by Opening Day which is not outside the realm of possibility. He could become a real draft-day bargain if he slips to the 6th or 7th round, so don’t let him slip by you at that point.
E.J. Manuel (QB-BUF).
Buffalo rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel had been outplaying the over-hyped and perpetually underachieving Kevin Kolb during the first two pre-season games. However, he will miss the remainder of the preseason after an MRI revealed swelling in his left knee which will require Manuel to undergo a minor knee procedure.
Danario Alexander (WR-SD).
It has been a rough pre-season thus far for the Chargers who lost their 2012 breakout wide receiver Danario Alexander to a season-ending knee injury. Alexander has had a storied injury history but came back with a flash last year and set the fantasy football world on fire for a period of several weeks. The Chargers also lost Malcom Floyd to a knee injury that is not as serious as initially expected. This means that Vincent Brown should be in line for most of Philip Rivers’ targets and should move up your draft boards significantly.
