Edinson Volquez pitched six innings allowing three runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts in a no-decision on Sunday against the White Sox.

Volquez has been a bit up and down this season but did post his second straight quality start on Sunday with his effort against the White Sox. However the seven hits given up were tied of the most in May. In the month he posted a 2-3 record with a 4.06 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, .274 BAA, and a 29:13 K:BB ratio. His next start comes Friday against another division foe in Cleveland who tagged him for five runs and seven hits in 4 1/3 that last time he faced them earlier this season.

Chris Sale pitched seven innings allowing two runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a no-decision on Sunday against the Royals.

Sale rebounded nicely from his only bad start of the season with Sunday’s performance, though he didn’t get the win because the Pale Hose bullpen blew another lead. In May, Sale posted a 4-1 record with a 2.88 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, .212 BAA, and a 44:11 K:BB ratio in six starts. His next start comes on Saturday against Detroit, who he faced in the last start of the season last year and pitched a seven-inning five-hitter allowing just one run.

Austin Jackson went 1-for-3 with two RBI in Sunday’s 5-4 loss to Kansas City.

Jackson had a two-RBI single in Sunday’s game, which originally bolstered the White Sox lead but ultimately proved not to be enough of a third game in a row. He also extended his four-game hit streak with the single. The last seven games have shown him to be a hot hitter with a .462/.464/.615 line with four RBI, and three runs scored in that span. The White Sox now play the Mets in New York starting Monday and face Matt Harvey, who Jackson is 1-for-4 off his in his career but that could change with the way Harvey is pitching at the moment.

Dioner Navarro went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI, and a steal in the 5-4 loss to Kansas City on Sunday.

Navarro had a solid showing on Sunday helping spot the White Sox to a 4-2 lead before ultimately losing 5-4 when all was said and done. He also managed to steal a bag for the first of the year and 14th in his career. In the last seven games he has managed to hit for a .318 AVG with one RBI, and four runs scored while the White Sox slump. Monday brings a pitcher that he has never faced in his career in Matt Harvey but he could see some pitches to hit with how Harvey is throwing the ball at the moment.

Wilson Ramos went 3-for-3 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored in Sunday’s win over St. Louis.

Ramos had a great game on Sunday accounting for five of the runs scored by the Nationals and doing some of his damage against Michael Wacha in the fourth inning. The catcher has been on a tear this season and May specifically as he hit .349/.413/.554 with four homers, 17 RBI, 11 runs scored in the month bringing his season-long average to .336, which leads the league for catchers. Ramos is batting .400 in five at bats against the next opponent in Jeremy Hellickson so his hot streak should continue into Monday.

Anthony Rendon went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI in Sunday’s 10-2 win over the Cardinals.

Sunday’s homer represented his fourth dinger of the season and his 15th RBI. May has been a great month for him, hitting .290/.393/.500 with four homers, 18 runs, 14 RBI, and five steals in the month which all account for the majority of his season long stats to this point. After such a down month in April, owners should be happy to see Rendon’s bat starting to show up as his average has jumped 25 points from a .242 to .267 this month. Next up on Monday is Jeremy Hellickson and the Phillies with Rendon hitting 0-for7 off of him in his career.

Jayson Werth went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit grand slam, four RBI, and a run scored in Washington’s 10-2 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.

Werth was supposed to get the day off on Sunday, but instead was used as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning when Felipe Rivero’s turn in the lineup came up. He took full advantage of it and launched his seventh long ball of the season and first since the 5th of May. The RBI were also his first since May 14th and the 24th of the season for him. His numbers in the last seven games are fairly similar to his season stats which the exception of a slightly higher average at .240. The Nats play Philly next and Jeremy Hellickson, who Werth is .273 off of in 11 at bats with a homer and six RBI in his career.

Stephen Strasburg pitched six innings allowing one run (one earned) on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in earning his ninth win of the season on Sunday.

With Sunday’s win, he is the first pitcher in the joint Expos/Nationals franchise history, which includes names like Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez, to start out a season 9-0. He has been great all season long as the number two man in the rotation for Washington, but May has been slightly tougher on him than April was. In May he posted a 5-0 record with a 3.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, .221 BAA, and a 50:12 K:BB which are all good but all higher than his April numbers, though he had one more start in May than April. Strasburg’s next start comes on Saturday in Cincinnati, which could be the best start of the season for him thus far with how bad the lineup for the Reds is.

Brandon Moss went 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored in St. Louis’ 10-2 loss to Washington on Sunday.

Moss tagged Strasburg for his lone mistake during the start on Sunday and hit his ninth homer of the season. Unfortunately, for St. Louis, there weren’t more men on to help quell the scoring power of the Nats. Moss has been hitting homers pretty consistently this month with four of them to his credit in May but with a low average at just .219. He is a part-time player at the moment but does offer flexibility at outfield and first base who has 10 RBI and 10 runs scored in May as well. Monday’s game brings a matchup against Junior Guerra who Moss hasn’t faced before.
