Week 3 was the week for injuries.  So many premium fantasy players went down with an injury this week including C.J. Spiller, Matt Stafford and Reggie Bush among plenty others.  It was also a week to stand by your guys as players who struggled in the first two weeks rose to the occasion this week.  JaMaal Charles, Torrey Smith and Larry Fitzgerald were among the players many didn’t start this week that broke out big time on Sunday.  Let’s take a deeper look around the league and see just who did what in week 3:

Michael Bush 3 yard TD run

Major Wright 45 yard INT return for TD

Notes

When defenses take Brandon Marshall out of the picture the Bears passing offense suffers greatly.

Steven Jackson had ice wrapped around his hamstring the entire first half.

Khalil Bell proved to be very effective when Bush needed a breather in this game.

Sam Bradford is a boring QB and has little to no fantasy purpose whatsoever.

Key Plays

CJ Spiller leaves game with shoulder injury

Spiller 32 yard TD reception

Trent Richardson 6 yard TD run

Stevie Johnson 9 yard TD reception

Notes

Tashard Choice will take over for Spiller until Fred Jackson comes back. Choice is a definite RB2 immediately

When Spiller left the game the Bills offense went completely limp for the rest of the game.

If you stop Trent Richardson, the Browns cannot move the football.

Ryan Fitzpatrick needs to do more for this offense if they are going to have a chance against better defenses

Luke Stocker 1 yard TD catch from Josh Freeman

DeMarco Murray 11 yard TD run

Miles Austin 49 yard reception

Notes

Tony Romo didn’t look to Austin or Bryant most of the first half. He needs to force them the ball.

Doug Martin runs incredibly hard. He is going to very hard to stop near the goal line.

DeMarcus Ware is an IDP stud. He was very underrated going into drafts this year but he’s a top 5 LB now.

The Cowboys didn’t trust Tony Romo to throw the ball on the final drive, settling for a FG instead.

Nate Washington 71 yard TD catch over Detroit CB

Jared Cook left game with a shoulder injury

Alterraun Verner 72 yard fumble return for TD

Titus Young 46 yard hail mary tipped TD reception

Notes

Mikel LeShoure has taken handle of the Lions RB1 job completely. Kevin Smith can be dropped.

Rob Bironas missed 2 consecutive FG tries early in this game which gave Detroit life.

Kendall Wright is going to break out in a major way very soon. He is a must have in leagues of 12 or more.

Nate Washington & Titus Young’s numbers are heavily inflated here and neither is a worth fantasy option.

Notes

Peterson struggled to get into the end zone on short yardage but not due to his struggles but the line

Big effort being made to get Randy Moss involved in his return to Minnesota

The 49ers looked to pass most of the 1st which is surprising considering their usual game plan

The Vikings struggle to block inside the 5 but Ponder really trusts Kyle Rudolph to make plays

Larry Fitzgerald 37 yard TD reception

Return

James Sanders 93 yard fumble return for TD

Notes

You should never, ever bench Larry Fitzgerald. So many asked me this week and hopefully you guys listened.

Michael Vick is a much better fantasy QB right now than real life QB. He’s played horribly so far this season.

Andre Roberts is a decent deep league WR. He’s clearly the WR2 in Arizona and both QB’s like him.

The Cardinals aren’t playing impressive football but they are a team with a lot of confidence right now.

Tony Gonzalez 7 yard TD reception

Julio Jones 9 yards TD reception

Notes

The Falcons offense is firing on all cylinders right now and Matt Ryan has the look of this year’s Matt Stafford.

Ryan Matthews played more than anticipated but came out of the game healthy.

Michael Turner is a useful RB3 that will get plenty of goal line opportunities.

Turner also paid tribute to former teammate LaDanian Tomlinson when he scored a 4th quarter TD.

Janikowski kicks FG’s of 32 & 43 to tie and win game

Notes

The Steelers controlled the first half of the game but never put Oakland away.

Both defenses are terrible but Pittsburgh’s is mostly because of injuries.

The Steelers absolutely must establish a running game or they will not be competitive this season.

Darren McFadden had a 64 yard TD run and would have had a second TD but call was reversed cause he was down at the 1 yard line.

Notes

Two late TD’s made this game look a lot closer than it really was. The Texans were fully in control.

DeMaryius Thomas played a poor game today dropping passes and not getting feet in bounds on would be TD

Despite being a running team Matt Schaub is still a solid backup fantasy QB going forward.

Ben Tate and DeMaryius Thomas lost fumbles in this game.
