The final week of the regular season in many fantasy leagues brought us a ton of excitement.  Between Andrew Luck’s heroic comeback against the Lions to Adrian Peterson’s dominance of the Packers there were performances for the ages this week.  Unfortunately, there were also awful games put up by the likes of Andre Johnson, waiver wire phenom Jarius Wright and another stinker from Larry Fitzgerald.  Injuries to regular fantasy contributors such as Jordy Nelson, Dustin Keller and Cecil Shorts didn’t help matters either.  But if you survived week 13 then you are ready to forget everything that you know and make a run for the championship next week.  So, let’s take a look back one last time at everything we learned in week 13:

Notes

Andrew Luck started off well then really struggled before leading the Colts back for the win

The Lions had no excuses to lose this game.  This game should not have been even close enough to lose.

Reggie Wayne was bracketed for most of the game which contributed to Lucks mid game struggles

Stafford is nearly unstoppable when he realizes he needs to force feed the ball to Calvin Johnson

Ponder was his horrific self once again and the reason the Vikings will not make the playoffs

Mason Crosby missed another FG and a short one bounce off the upright and in.  Should be cut this week

Notes

TE Garrett Graham – possible concussion

Kenny Britt catches a 34 yard TD but he is still not very involved in the offense and it is just too random

Foster appears to be wearing down a bit as Forsett played a bunch early on and something to monitor

Damian Williams injury should help Kendall Wright stay on the field every down if it causes him to miss time

Key Plays

Greg Olsen 47 yard TD Catch and Run

Hillis gets a rare goal line carry for a 1 yard TD

Steve Smith 23 yard TD Catch

Notes

Newton played real well once again but the Panthers defense could not get off the field

Brady Quinn played his best game of his career and he will be the starter for the rest of the season

Hillis continues to be ineffective and the team should going to with Draughns to spell Charles

Charles has been the focus of the offense the last two weeks which has seen a much better offense.

Cecil Shorts 5 yard TD reception

Notes

I would like to be the offensive coordinator of the Bills just so that I can call a screen pass to CJ Spiller.

You should expect Jordan Todman to get the start at RB for the Jaguars next week.

The slipper fell off in a big way for the Jaguars offense this week. I still like Blackmon though going forward.

Fred Jackson is the most talented player that is nearly impossible to start on a regular basis due to situation

Notes

Golden Tate is an absolutely usable fantasy option these days. Very underrated but producing every week.

Jay Cutler has a bad reputation but he is as tough an NFL QB as you will see.

Russell Wilson is still not even close to being a usable fantasy QB.

The Bears passing offense misses Alshon Jeffery more than anyone realizes.

Kaepernick penalty in endzone resulting in safety

Janoris Jenkins 2 yard fumble return for TD

Notes

The 49ers will be thankful to not have to play the Rams anymore this season.

Colin Kaepernick must use his legs more in order to extend drives and force coverage breakdowns.

Chris Givens proved today that he is more than just a deep threat for the Rams and fantasy owners.

Greg Zuerline is an absolute fantasy beast in leagues which award bonus points for distance on FG’s.

Julian Edelman left game with a foot injury

Ryan Tannehill 2 yard TD run

Stephen Gostkowski FG’s of 20, 32 & 43 yards

Notes

Very inaccurate day for Tom Brady. It is just strange that he always struggles in Miami.

Today was even further proof that you cannot trust any Dolphins WR’s in fantasy football.

When you account for overall number and consistency, Stevan Ridley is a RB1 in fantasy football this season.

The Dolphins had a defensive INT for TD called back due to a penalty on Reggie Bush for an illegal block.

Mitch Unrein 1 yard TD reception

Dallas Clark 11 yard TD reception

DeMaryius Thomas TD receptions of 8 & 10 yards

Notes

Manning feasted on the Bucs inability to get off the field to the tune of four 1st half too many men penalties

Doug Martin is one of the safest fantasy players around. He’ll never have an awful game with the way he runs

I hope that all the people who drafted Eric Decker over DeMaryius Thomas see the folly of their ways now.

Matt Prater is an awful 2 of 5 on FG’s of 40-49 yards this season.

Notes

The Raiders are absolutely no threat in running the football with Marcel Reece as their lead RB.

Josh Cribbs has lost a few steps in the return game. He is no longer an elite threat back there.

Denarius Moore was benched in the second half of this game for ineffectiveness.

Brandon Myers was 6-73 yards with the TD all on the final drive of the game.

Andy Dalton 6 yard TD run

Notes

BenJarvus Green-Ellis just shredded the Chargers defense and gained 74 yards after contact this afternoon.

San Diego needs a coach like Greg Schiano to come in and put pressure on the immense talent that is here.

Ryan Mathews has become absolutely unusable other than in desperate situations in fantasy right now.

Keep an eye on Bengals WR Marvin Jones.  He could be the red zone replacement for Mohammad Sanu.

Ray Rice 34 yard TD run

Heath Miller 7 yard TD reception

Notes

It doesn’t show up in the boxscore but Charlie Batch tried to push the ball downfield to Mike Wallace.

The Ravens almost seem like the deliberately don’t want to give the ball to Ray Rice more often.

Jonathan Dwyer’s TD was the first of his career. He will be quite useful the next couple of weeks.

This is why you cannot trust Torrey Smith as anything but a FLEX option on a week to week basis.

Notes

There is going to be serious discussion of how to get Bryce Brown the ball when LeSean McCoy comes back.

DeMarco Murray is not a full go for the fantasy playoffs and a strong RB2 from here on out.

Tony Romo was 10-10 with 3 TD’s in the second half of this game.

The Cowboys had lost their last 8 straight Sunday Night games before tonight’s win.
