Months of preparation came to a head this weekend as the NFL regular season finally kicked off.  As usual there were injuries, benched players, upsets and the standard RB controversy in Washington.  Ted Schuster and I sat in front of 8 TV’s in my basement on Sunday and devoured both a large chicken bacon ranch pizza from Domino’s and a near lethal dose of NFL football.  What follows is our notes from each and every game this weekend.  Feel free to ask questions or make comments of your own right here on the week 1 roundup.

Brady had right shoulder taped up & bloody nose

Donta Hightower 6 yard fumble recovery for TD

A. Hernandez 23 yard TD reception

Notes

The referees will not call a pass interference penalty on the Patriots no matter what.

Brady got banged up early but stayed in game.  The offensive line played much better than in preseason.

The Patriots offense has so many weapons it is literally impossible to stop if executed correctly.

Chris Johnson looks great in open space but getting to that space has been difficult lately.

Notes

Matt Cassel is the worst starting QB in the NFL not named Brandon Weeden. Is it Brady Quinn time yet?

Julio Jones lives up to hype in scoring 2 TD’s. Roddy White effective in this game but won’t get credit.

The Falcons just didn’t show any interest in running the football this afternoon.

JaMaal Charles was very impressive in a 48 yard run in which he proved his cutting ability is still in tact.

Michael Bush as expected getting almost all of the goal line touches

Luck was under pressure the entire game and the Colts have thrown a ton even when the game was close

Notes

Ugly gameplan by the Eagles with not enough running plays for McCoy

Vick has thrown 4 ints and has not been making good decisions

The rust is there for Trent Richardson as he does not look like he has that burst

Weeden in an not NFL QB..horrific decision making under any pressure

Rex Ryan got tackled on sideline by CJ Spiller

Stephen Hill TD catches of 17 & 33 yards

CJ Spiller 56 yard TD run

Notes

CJ Spiller is ready to be a top RB in the NFL. He is very impressive to watch and possesses exceptional speed.

Mark Sanchez is playing with a giant chip on his shoulder these days.

It’s official: Ryan Fitzpatrick is bad. It isn’t the shoulder injury from last year, he is playing terribly.

Shonn Greene fumbled twice in the game. Despite numbers, he didn’t have a good game whatsoever.

Kevin Smith 5 yard TD run and a 5 yard TD reception

Brandon Gibson 23 yard TE reception

Notes

Vintage Lions offense as they wait until the very end to force feed the ball to Calvin Johnson

The Rams are so much better fundamentally this year. Still not much talent but won’t give games away.

Brandon Gibson was Bradford’s main target today despite what that number will say. He is worth a look…

The Lions defense takes way too many plays off. They are great when push comes to shove but are lazy.

Blackmon was not as involved in the offense compare to pre-season games

Petersen get the bulk of the work despite everyone saying different.

AP takes some shots to his knees and gets right back up.

Pondedr showed some more patience in the pocket rather than just taking off  when anyone is by him

Brees was very erractic and the offense looked completely of synch

Redskins play calling was very safe with a bunch of screen passes.

Daniel Thomas leaves with concussion

Arian Foster 2 TD’s in the span of 1 minute

Andre Johnson 14 yard TD reception

Marcus Thigpen 72 yard punt return

Notes

Ryan Tannehill just isn’t ready to be an NFL QB. He needs time to develop and this won’t help him

The Texans defense and special teams caused turnovers which resulted in 21 straight points

Arian Foster got his foot caught in the turf at one point and his knee buckled. It looked bad but he was fine.

Davone Bess isn’t a bad WR3 option in PPR league formats.

David Akers 63 yard field goal

Randy Moss 14 yard TD reception

Randall Cobb 75 yard punt return for TD

Notes

The Packers seem dedicated to getting the ball in the hands of Randall Cobb more this year.

Randy Moss is going to be a legitimate red zone weapon for the 49ers this year.  Think Plaxico Burress.

Frank Gore ran outside of the tackles more today than I have seen in years and had more burst as well.

Packers must get a running game together. The offense is effective but very one dimensional.

Injuries

Key Plays

John Skelton was carted off with an ankle injury

Sidney Rice 10 yard TD reception

LaRod Stephens Howling 1 yard TD run

Andre Roberts 6 yard TD reception

Notes

Russell Wilson is a great athlete but is just not ready to be a starting QB in the NFL.

The Cardinals offensive line is so bad that even a good RB wouldn’t do much with the lack of room created.

Braylon Edwards appears to be one of Wilson’s favorite targets and should get some consideration on waivers

Leon Washington had an 83 yard kickoff return and 52 yard punt return, neither of which went for a TD.

Injuries

Key Plays

Jonathan Stewart was inactive

Mike Williams 6 yard TD reception

Ronde Barber INT late in 4th quarter

Brandon LaFell 22 yard TD catch

Notes

Cam Newton seemed hesitant to run the football today and that lead to a lack of 3rd down conversions

The Bucs defense especially against the run is remarkably better this year.

Doug Martin gained a whopping 55 yards after contact in the game.

The Panthers had no business not running the football in this game.

Key Plays

DeMaryius Thomas 71 yard TD catch and run

Mike Wallace 3 yard TD reception

Jacob Tamme 1 yard TD catch

Notes

Peyton Manning displayed a 3-5 MPH dip in his velocity when compared to his days with the Colts.

Mike Wallace is still the Steelers big play WR.  A. Brown is just a nice possession WR.

The Steelers lost RG Ramon Foster & RT Marcus Gilbert to injury during this game.

Knowshon Moreno looks to be plenty involved in the Broncos offense.  He may be a guy to keep an eye on.

Key Plays

Barnard Scott was inactive for the game

Anquan Boldin 34 yard TD reception

Ed Reed 34 yard INT return for TD

Ray Lewis forced a fumble leading to Ray Rice 1 yard TD

Notes

The Ravens ran a bunch of no huddle and did it to perfection.  They had the Bengals defense on their heels.

Andrew Hawkins looked like a legitimate receiving threat for the Bengals.  He is worth a waiver pickup.

Joe Flacco is on his way to a big year. He has the eye of the tiger and seems like a guy who figured it out.

Green-Ellis is a solid RB2 running behind a very good Cincinnati offensive line.
