DFS MLB Hitting Coach: May 31

Manager Pete Mackanin said Monday that Ryan Howard has not been benched, but he will lose some playing time to Tommy Joseph moving forward.

The former National League MVP is slowly losing playing time so the team can get a look at a promising young prospect. For the majority of this season, Howard has only been playing against right-handed pitchers. Now, even that is being cut back due to his .157 batting average and 52 strikeouts.

Brandon Marshall has returned to Jets OTAs Tuesday.

Marshall joined Eric Decker by skipping OTA's last week to show support for their QB getting a new contract. Marshall has always shown that he will go above and beyond to be a leader for his team and this is his way of expressing it in New York. Marshall and Decker would much rather have Ryan Fitzpatrick at Quarterback than Geno Smith and they are making that known.

Eric Decker has returned to Jets OTAs Tuesday.

It's been pretty obvious that Decker is a strong supporter of Ryan Fitzpatrick receiving a healthy contract from the Jets, and many speculate that Decker skipped OTA's last week because the Jets reportedly "low-balled" Fitzpatrick in an initial offer. Decker and Fitzpatrick are also represented by the same agency. Nevertheless, Decker has reported to the Organized Team Activities and appears ready to begin moving forward with the season.

Manager Robin Ventura said the White Sox will wait to make a decision about placing Austin Jackson (toe) on the disabled list.

The White Sox aren't sure how long Jackson will be out, but they feel like it won't be long enough to place him on the 15-day disabled list. Jackson has been absolutely crushing the ball lately as he is hitting .464 over his last 31 plate appearances. Chicago called up J.B. Shuck before Monday's game and started him in center field in Jackson's place.

Emmanuel Burris will likely lose his roster spot when Cody Asche is activated from the disabled list.

Ashe's return is imminent which means someone will have to be taken off the roster to make room, and it appears that Burriss will be that guy. Having only 33 at-bats in 27 games, Burriss hasn't shown that is is capable of performing well in either a starter role or off the bench. His .121 BA and .194 OBP show that he could use the time in the minors to work on his approach at the plate.

Giancarlo Stanton (side) could return Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Stanton missed his sixth straight games yesterday with soreness in his side but could possibly return today. Giancarlo said earlier that he expected to play in this series, even if it was to just pinch hit. Even that didn't happen in yesterdays game, so hopefully he will be able to find his way back into the game today.

Phillies will have to activate Cody Asche (oblique) from the disabled list by Thursday,.

Asche will have reached the maximum duration for a rehab assignment on Thursday and must be activated by Philadelphia. He missed all of spring training and the first two months of the season with an oblique injury. Asche has homered in his last two Triple-A games and will compete for a spot in the outfield when he returns to the majors.

Dion Waiters says he wants to return to the Thunder.

Waiters has a bit of a breakout in the playoffs, and while he could probably parlay that into a big contract from a desperate team like the Nets, Oklahoma City is probably the best place for Waivers on and off the court. While Waiters would likely have a higher ceiling on another team, the odds are he would be a disaster someplace else, like Lance Stephenson has been since leaving the Pacers.

Dalton Pompey left Monday's game with Triple-A Buffalo with an apparent knee injury.

Pompey said that he just banged his knee against the wall, so his removal from the game seems to be more precautionary then anything. Unless the Toronto outfield falls victim to the injury bug, Pompey seems destined for a full year in the minors.

Update: Miguel Rojas left Monday's game with a shoulder injury.

Rojas was promptly replaced by Derek Dietrich, who had been dealing with a head injury himself. Rojas is a role player right now, so his injury shouldn't impact many fantasy teams.
