It’s been a busy Monday here at the Fantasy Alarm office. The injury updates have been pouring in like beer down Joe Namath’s gullet all day. So far, it appears the Redskins have taken the brunt of the bad news so far but plenty of other important fantasy players will be missing time as well. I also have some thoughts tonight on Tim Tebow, Pete Carroll and some advice on making trades. I’m also interested in your favorite fast food eats these days. The McRib is back at McDonald’s and I just can’t get enough. What are your favorites? Leave them in the comments section after you get through with tonight’s fantasy football update.
Tim Hightower – RB – Washington – Hightower has a torn left ACL and is out for the season. Many expect Ryan Torain to become the lead RB once again for the Redskins but I strongly believe that Roy Helu is the much more valuable player for the rest of the season.
Santana Moss – WR – Washington – Had surgery on his broken wrist. Moss will be out 5-7 weeks leaving the Redskins with nothing at the WR position.
Matt Ryan – QB – Atlanta – Ryan has a sprained left ankle and despite a strong public front, many on the Falcons organization fear a possible high ankle sprain. The Falcons are off in week 8 so at least Ryan will have an additional week to recover.
Matthew Stafford – QB – Detroit – Don’t believe anything you hear or read from Jim Schwartz and the Lions. They are worse than Bill Bellichick when it comes to disclosing information. Pay close attention to the practice reports and make a claim on Shaun Hill who would be an excellent replacement if Stafford misses time.
Willis McGahee – RB – Denver – Had surgery on his broken hand this morning. He will be out 1-2 weeks and will be replaced by Knowshon Moreno. I absolutely love Knowshon Moreno on the waiver wire this week.
Earnest Graham – RB – Tampa Bay – Torn right Achilles, out for the season.
Beanie Wells – RB – Arizona – Beanie has either an MCL or PCL knee sprain and is going to miss 1-2 weeks. Alfonso Smith takes over at RB for the Cardinals for the time being with Chester Taylor possibly stealing some third down carries.
Darren McFadden – RB – Oakland – Sprained right foot, was on crutches this morning and had an MRI this afternoon. Oakland has a bye week this week so DMC will have two weeks to recover.
Why Isn’t He Fired?
Everybody who knows anything or follows the NFL whatsoever understands that the Miami Dolphins don’t want Tony Sprarano to be their head coach. They humiliated him after last season by pursuing Jim Harbaugh before losing out the the 49ers and giving Sparano more money for his embarrassment. But Sparano is not a good head coach. His teams have done absolutely nothing the past few years and his act has grown tiresome in every way. What the hell is up with the sunglasses? Two types of people wear sunglasses all of the time: blind people and assholes. Tony Sparano is not blind. There isn’t any chance and I do many ANY chance that he is the Dolphins head coach next season so why not do your players and your fans a service and put him out of his misery? Maybe the Dolphins are trying to embarrass him the way he has embarrassed the franchise the past few years. Who knows! But its time to give this act the hook.

I am fascinated with the enigma that is Tim Tebow. In full disclosure, I have been on both sides of this argument or at least it feels that way. I knew that Tebow was not an NFL caliber QB coming out of Florida. If I were running a team I would have put a third or fourth round target on him assuming I felt that I had the coaching staff that could help develop him.
Why draft him at all than you ask? Great question. You draft Tim Tebow because you need players like him on your football team much like you need guys like him at your office, in government and in your circle of friends. Now, stop yourself before you go on about the religious aspect of Tim Tebow. I don’t give a shit about any of that. For clarification, let’s just say that my religious beliefs are as far from Tebow as Clint Howard’s looks are from Brad Pitt. But Tebow’s a hard worker, a good guy and has an eternal fire for the game of football. The guy would play another position, be second string, be third string, coach, fetch high quality H2O anything to be a part of the game. Ask any coach and they will tell you that they’d prefer 53 Tim Tebow’s over 53 Percy Harvin’s any day of the week.
Therefore, Tebow can be coached. He can be developed. But it is going to take some time and he is obviously not there yet. He will never be a Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers type passer though. But he’s scrappy, he’s tough and he’s smart. He’ll get his team in position to win the game and that is all any coach or teammate could ever want. The more people hate on Tebow, the more his teammates will respect him. They will play for him, they will love him. I believe they already do. The rest of the team watched as the coaching staff humiliated him during preseason by practically eliminating him from playing QB. They heard the media ridicule him and other people laugh at him. They had to answer questions about him over and over again. But you want to know what Tim Tebow did while everybody was doing asking those questions? He worked. Day in and day out he put in the time. In the film room, in the weight room, on the practice field, after practices, before practices, on weekends and in every chance he got. His teammates saw all of that and they respect the hell out of that. Wouldn’t you?
From a fantasy perspective, Tebow is a real good QB option. He runs the ball a lot, had a nose for the endzone, has show the ability to make big plays with his arm and actually has some useful weapons around him. He’s going to throw for 175 yards a game, rush for 50 more, throw for 12 TD’s this season and rush for 6 more. It will be frustrating to watch but this is the type of player you can be comfortable putting your faith into cause at the very least you know that he’ll work his ass off to not let you down.
