It’s time to gear up for this week’s fantasy matchups, and what better way than to check out the 2011 Fantasy Football Injury Report and get all the latest injury information on your players? As always, we’ll start with the players listed in the last injury report – those that took their lumps last weekend – and from there we’ll talk about some other notable injuries that may have an effect on your lineup. We’re not going to worry about guys with a bye week right now; just players you’ll want to be using this week. As always, you’ll wan tto check back late night tonight or early tomorrow morning for the official NFL Week 8 Injury Report that will be re-posted at the end of this article. Let’s get to it…
Matthew Stafford, QB DET – Two straight practices with the first team on Thursday and Friday should mean that Stafford’s ankle is doing much better and he should be good to go this Sunday. He’s listed as questionable and coach Jim Schwartz hasn’t officially committed to Stafford as his starter, but that could also just be a little cat and mouse game with John Fox and the Broncos.
Willis McGahee, RB DEN – He’s listed as doubtful for the game after having surgery to repair a fracture in his hand. It is very unlikely that he will play so hopefully you’ve got his handcuff and said handcuff doesn’t live up to his nickname of “No Show” Moreno.
Tim Hightower, RB WAS – Just reiterating that Hightower is done for the season and taking another opportunity to tell the Skins coaching staff, particularly Shanahan, that fantasy owners don’t appreciate the way they are leaving us hanging with the team’s RB situation. Speculation says Ryan Torain is the starter, but you can’t discount Roy Helu too much either.
Mark Ingram, RB NO – The rookie running back missed practice both Wednesday and Thursday and is listed as questionable with a bruised heel. It looks like it will be a game time decision, but not something in which you can really put your trust. With Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas more than capable of man-handling the hapless Rams defense, the Saints could give Ingram some extra time to recover.
Joseph Addai, RB IND – He hasn’t practiced this week and coach Jim Caldwell says that he is still waiting for medical clearance before he lets him on the field. We all know how tenuous hamstring injuries can be, so this looks like another game time decision. Even if Addai is able to go, Delone Carter and even Donald Brown seem like better options for you this week.
Beanie Wells, RB ARI – Another injured running back and another game time decision. Wells has a bone bruise on his knee and is listed as questionable, however, he did return to practice on Thursday in limited fashion. Given his injury and the fact that the Cardinals are playing a very angry Ravens team in Baltimore this week, Wells, even if he’s playing, does not make for a good option this week.
Tashard Choice, RB DAL – After limited practices Wednesday and Thursday, Choice (shoulder) was held out of practice on Friday. It looks like he might atleast suit up for the game, but won’t be worth a look in fantasy as the Cowboys will try and lean on DeMarco Murray again.
Marshawn Lynch, RB SEA – He was upgrade to full practice on Thursday and all signs point to him starting this weekend against the Bengals. Of course, that’s what everyone though last week before Lynch’s back spasms started and he was suddenly not playing. He should be ready to go this week though and spare himself another week of embarrassment, but against Cincy’s run defense, he’s not really more than a flex player.
Andre Johnson, WR HOU – You can put the champagne back on ice, folks. Johnson did not practice Friday and coach Gary Kubiak says that he [Johnson] is not ready to return this week. There was an inkling of hope earlier in the week, but you will now have to focus that energy onto Week 9.
Santana Moss, WR WAS – Again, he’s out for 5-7 weeks after surgery on his hand which mean that Jabar Gaffney and Anthony Armstrong lead the Skins’ receivers this week. With John Beck under center, it all seems even uglier, doesn’t it?
Hines Ward, WR PIT – Ward missed another practice on Thursday with his ankle sprain but there are some conflicting reports coming in regarding his status for Week 8. He’s listed as questionable and some are saying that he won’t play, but Emmanuel Sanders, the guy tabbed as Ward’s potential replacement (not Antonio Brown, you might note) seems to think that Ward will play, saying that he’s seen him do some running drills. It looks like another game time decision. If Sanders does start, he is definitely recommended against a leaky Patriots secondary.
Percy Harvin, WR MIN – Harvin (ribs) finally returned to practice Thursday, albeit on a limited basis. Now the question is how does he feel the next day? No Friday reports have come in yet, but Harvin is listed as questionable for this Sunday. Even if he does get cleared to play, he is a risky start against a solid Panthers pass defense.
Damian Williams, WR TEN – Apparently Williams has passed all of his concussion tests and was not even listed on the Titans’ injury report Wednesday. Still, he is not really a recommended start despite a nice matchup against the Colts.
Mohammed Massaquoi, WR CLE – He has officially been ruled out for this week as concussion symptoms are still lingering. Greg Little should see a pretty nice increase in targets this week in a tough matchup against San Francisco.
Benjamin Watson, TE CLE – He returned to practice on Friday after missing the previous two days with concussion symptoms and look sto be ready to play this weekend. He hasn’t done much to date, so you can probably keep your expectations low.
And as for the rest…
Sam Bradford, QB STL – Officially ruled out for Week 8, so adjust your lineups accordingly.
BenJarvis Green-Ellis, RB NE – The Law Firm has been dealing with a toe injury for a few weeks and although he says that he is able to play through the pain, he is listed on the injury report as questionable. He should still be out there on Sunday when the Patriots meet the Steelers.
Peyton Hillis, RB CLE – Hillis missed practice again on Friday and might not play this week due to the lingering hamstring issue. It’s been touch and go all week after he missed the game against Seattle in Week 7 and it starting to look more and more like Montario Hardesty will get the call again.
Brandon Jacobs, RB NYG – After missing the last two games, it appears as if Jacobs will be returning to the lineup in Week 8. He practiced again on Friday, three days straight, and despite still being listed as questionable with his knee injury, he should suit up this weekend against the Dolphins.
Adrian Peterson, RB MIN – He’s been dealing with a bit of an ankle issue lately, but he should still be ready to go this weekend. He returned to practice on a limited basis Thursday and shoul dup his workout Friday. Barring any setbacks Friday or Saturday, AP should be just fine.
Mike Tolbert, RB SD – Tolbert missed practice Wednesday and Thursday and is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. With the Chargers playing Monday night, it appears that Tolbert is taking advantage of the extra days and will be fine for his Week 8 matchup with the Chiefs. Keep an eye on him though as he could have a setback this weekend and you’ll want to make sure you’re covered.
Malcom Floyd, WR SD – Floyd still hasn’t practiced this week either, and while his situation seems similar to that of Tolbert’s, Floyd has been injury prone his entire career, so you might want to seek out a healthier alternative.
Early Doucet, WR ARI – After missing practice on Wednesday with a quadriceps injury, Doucet returned on a limited basis Thursday. He is listed as questionable, but should be able to go on Sunday. However, the matchup against the Ravens is not a very favorable one.
Danario Alexander, WR STL – He is currently dealing with a hamstring issue that has left him as questionable this week after missing practice both Wednesday and Thursday. His targets were seriously limited with the arrival of Brandon Lloyd, so between that and the injury, he becomes an even more risky play this week.
Visanthe Schiancoe, TE MIN – After missing most of the week with a foot injury, Schiancoe returned to a limited practice on Friday. He is listed as questionable, but it looks like he’ll be able to suit up on Sunday.
