The non-waiver trading deadline has now passed and while many rumored deals did not come to fruition, some elite prospects are “trading places”. Expect more trades this month as prospects not on a major league 40-man roster are not subject to the waiver clearance. Cleveland appears to have assumed the greatest risk and in doing so has re-stocked the Colorado farm system. Washington had a lot to offer but decided to stand pat on their search for a center fielder, at least for now. Who’s next? Last week, we told you about Arizona’s Paul Goldschmidt, hopefully you took advantage of that.

Mike Trout- Outfielder-Los Angeles Angels
We received a glimpse of who some consider to be an even better prospect that Bryce Harper. Trout has been sent back down to Double-A Arkansas. Trout hit .163 in 43 at bats while filling in for the injured Peter Bourjos. With aging OF’s Trout will be on the speed-dial of Manager Mike Scioscia.
Brett Lawrie- Third baseman-Toronto Blue Jays
Fantasy owners are certain to have “Lawrie-fatigue” by the time September call-ups roll around. Jays Manager John Farrell insists Lawrie will get the call this month. Jose Bautista will move from third base back to right field when Lawrie is summoned.
Jacob Turner- Pitcher-Detroit Tigers
We received a glimpse of Detroit’s top prospect over the weekend when he pitched very well in a spot start. Turner was sent back down following the 96 pitch performance. Turner is a step closer as he was sent to Triple-A Toledo instead of back to Double-A Erie.
Jesus Montero- Catcher-New York Yankees
The Yankees were noticeably quiet at the deadline. Early indications are that Montero will be the first Yanks prospect called up in a few weeks. Reportedly, New York nearly moved Francisco Cervelli over the weekend which would have accelerated Montero’s call-up.
Drew Pomeranz- Pitcher-Colorado Rockies
Pomeranz was the sexy name acquired in the Ubaldo Jiminez deal but it will be Alex White who is first to make his presence felt. White has missed three months due to a finger injury but is being projected into the Rockies rotation in September. White made three solid starts with Cleveland prior to the injury.
Dee Gordon- Shortstop-Los Angeles Dodgers
What did Gordon do in Albuquerque over the last month? How about a .402 on base percentage and a .500 slugging average with eight steals in nine attempts? Gordon is the future and may return to stay.
Zach Wheeler- Pitcher-New York Mets
Wheeler was the prize in the Carlos Beltran sweepstakes coming over from San Francisco. Wheeler has been assigned to high Class-A St. Lucie but will be on a fast track. The 21-year-old struck out 98 in 88 innings for high Class-A San Jose.
Jonathan Singleton- First baseman-Houston Astros
The Phillies needed Hunter Pence’s right handed power bat and Singleton was the key to the deal. Only 19 and a year removed from high school, Singleton is already impressing. Assigned to the Lancaster Jet Hawks in high Class-A California league, Singleton is on fire, five for ten with a double and a home run.
Brad Peacock- Pitcher-Washington Nationals
The trade of Jason Marquis is expected to eventually open a spot on the Nationals roster for Peacock, one of the top-50 prospects according to Baseball America. Peacock carried in a no-hitter into the 8th in his last start in Triple-A after dominating Double-A. While at Harrisburg, Peacock was 10-2 with a 2.01 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 115 innings.
Brett Wallace- First baseman-Houston Astros
What has happened to Wallace? Long a prospect, Wallace has been involved in trades involving Matt Holiday and later Roy Halladay. It appeared he had found his home in Houston but it certainly hasn’t been a holiday for Wallace as he was sent down to Triple-A to try and find his stroke.
